Cam belt out of timing

I ended up buying a Pierburg EGR valve on Amazon. They have just started up in Sweden and have free delivery and great price. I replaced the EGR and the car runs beautifully. So, to sum up, my problems was caused by two things:
1. The cambelt was out of timing, probably slipped a gear
2. I had the wrong EGR valve even if it was new. I replaced it with a genuine Pierburg and all problems are gone.
Hi and thanks for this. I changed the EGR valve 3 years ago and didn´t know this was the cause of the hiccups at low revs and hesitation when re-starting after a stop. The car behaved right despite of that, just some problems engaging the gear, probably a faulty shift lever mechanism, I´ll have a look some day as I justus this car once a week or so.
I drive off-road this to go fishing to the seaside. It´s a great car and of course, impossible to get rusty...
Both my sons began to drive on it and I like it more than ever before. Bought new in 2001 for my wife and 194.000 kms on the clock, stock exhaust, clutch, brake rotors. Engine light permanently on since 17 year ago or so, authorized dealer was able to find the fault...The moment I left the Audi dealer all problems vanished. Now a local mechanic takes care of it and just changed the water pump and its bearing, thermostat body and the pie that connects both.
Of course, I disconnected the EGR valve today and the car runs great, I should order a new Pieburg one as I throw the old one to the waste bin.
