Cambelt and Water Pump replacement prices including labour.

Howdy Ay 2

A2OC Donor
We are looking to have the timing belt and water pump replaced on our 2005 A2 1.4TDI and wondering how much this is likely to cost at a garage.
Inspected the belt and it is showing it's age now so better to be safe.

We are located in the North Manchester area around Middleton/Rochdale. Don't fancy attempting to replace these items ourselves.

Has anyone had their timing belt and water pump replaced recently and are able to recommend a reliable garage in our area please?

Thank You

Wom would be my choice. Not exactly local but also not that far away

When I lived in south Manchester, I would have wholeheartedly recommended Audi Doctor in Stockport.
@simufly had this done recently: Simon, would you recommend?

Thank You for the replies. Two definite recommendations for WOM.?

Will send an email request to them for an estimated price.

We are located around 70 miles away so hopefully they may be able to carry out the work while we wait.

Will also await Simon's verdict on Audi Doctor which would be closer.

Thanks again.

I have sourced parts from ebay with a dayco kit and genuine pump, plus antifreeze will cost me about £60 doing myself
Youtube has some superb vids showing the process of the belt itself as its almost identicle procedure on 1.4 and 1.9 TDI

Most garages will be very familiar with the PD 6 and 8 valve engines (there easier than the newer stuff) so dont think a specialist is required just a good garage.
SKF kit including water pump was £80 a few years ago from euros (was for a galaxy but think same kit fits A2)

I've done the same job with the WOM guys. I travelled 100 miles there and other 100 miles back. The service they providing worth the 200 miles trip and the few hours waiting and they are decent guys.

Fair play, not sure if the current situation would allow it but theres certainly worst crimes!

I travel 111 miles from Gloucestershire to WOM for any major work on my TDI90 And FSI Ask if you can have courtesy car for day some good places to visit in the area
Also train station is only 3.5 miles away

I've used Volksmaster in Bury a few years ago. They weren't too expensive and righted a few issues attributable to the previous garage I'd used. They have another branch in Oldham which is probably closer to you. Perhaps give them a ring if you don't want to travel too far.

I've just had my 2001 1.4 AUA petrol pass its MOT with minor faults at the VW/Audi specialist in Broadstairs, Kent.
It's done 166,885 miles with the last cambelt change about 11 years ago (approx 110,000 miles) using a Unipart belt.
They've quoted an all in price of £572 to do a replacement belt, water pump etc. using genuine Audi parts.
Is this an acceptable price?
I read on this forum of AT Motors in Dover being A2 specialists. Are they good?
I don't do much mileage; but would like the security of it being done. Would it make it easier to sell if i decide to, bearing in mind the mileage?
The costs are really adding up on this car, after a purchase price of £500, 2 1/2 years ago.
Thank you all, Keith.

Yup, about right, had mine done recently at independent and came all in, water pump, cam belt and serpentine belt at £550.

Staggering prices on what is around £100 in parts (ok thats based on the TDI) in my book its a £300 cash job (ok i did my own but you get the picture)
Sadly most folk (including myself) wouldnt entertain spending more doing the timing belt than the purchase price of the car and 2.5 years ago at that!
From memory unipart was gates, very good indeed!

Oh wow, you guys really do pay through the nose for servicing around the country. A cambelt kit and waterpump is no more that £150 in parts, Its about £250 all in down here.

Hi Steve.
I haven't agreed to anything yet. They did say it would be genuine Audi; but who makes these parts for them?
They didn't state the parts cost. I suggested getting a Continental kit ( around £120 I think ) for them to fit.
I'll try AT Motors in Dover.
The overall spend on this car, plus this is getting excessive as it's at 166,885 miles.
I'll try a compression test first; as it does use oil.
Am I going to keep it or not????
Where is down here by the way?
Keith.

Steve’s in Aberdare, South Wales. If you click on the user name it generally will give a location

WOM or if you would rather go North then Harper’s Cumbria in Carlisle. We have all our A2 and A6 Avant Servicing done by Harpers inc. Cam Belts & Water Pumps. Daughter takes her A4 Avant to Harpers. We find Harpers very good and trustworthy. Took the A2 to WOM for a New Clutch as they came up with a lower price than Harpers, and to try WOM out as they are so highly recommended. We were very pleased with WOM but it’s twice the distance for us compared to Carlisle.
