can anybody repair open sky with the kit?

Hi again. Now the summer is just about here I am trying once again to find a garage or private mechanic preferably in southern England who can repair an open sky sunroof using the repair kit. As you may know, Audi sell a kit comprising wires and cogs for around £150 but they are just not interested in repairing these systems quoting ludicrous amounts for labour, preferring to fit new and incredibly expensive ones with again, large labour costs.
There is a list of 5 members who have similar problems here : http://www.a2oc.net/forum/calendar.p...3&day=2010-6-4 please add yourself if you like, but the main thing is to find someone who can repair these, they will get plenty of work/repeat business and would make a lot of people very happy!
Anyone out there???

I wonder if any of the more switched on Audi dealers would consider doing the job for a special price if all 5 members committed to the repair.
Suggested dealers would be Stafford - http://www.sayyourprice.co.uk/
or Stoke Audi where we could maybe discuss it with Dave Lever who runs their on-line parts store.

Cheers Spike

Good idea to club together as a group, I'm sure that will give negotiation power - if my OpenSky goes ping I'll definitely be interested.

sun roof

The A2OC club has been brilliant however joining the sub section knackered sunroof club not so good
So there I was first sunny day and my sunroofs sitting at a 45 degree angle across the opening 40 minutes me and a pal to shut it His parting words What will you do to which I replied no problems there's a guy on the owners club with a fix for everything Came home logged in horror!!! What £2000 first thoughts my wife will kill me
However I have an Audi warranty Called Stafford very helpful Told me theres a bulletin out on the A2 sunroof
Called the guys in Glasgow who have always looked after my A2's A4AUDI and its booked in for next week they have done one before and don't see it being a problem fingers crossed

Update

As I have a approved audi warranty its going to have to be a main dealer repair not independent called Stirling Audi waiting for call back Will keep you posted

open sky

According to Audi Stafford Audi uk have posted a bulletin to dealers about faults with the sun roof and getting a repair isn't a problem
However glasgow and stirling aren't playing ball

Well it's a problem for Eastbourne Audi....ridiculous quotes for opensky repairs...if anyone knows more details of this Audi bulletin...such as repair quotes or labour times...please post.

Also broken Open Sky...

My open sky roof is somewhat broken, the motor etc all still work fine but the whole thing was sticking, refusing to open occassionally and most recently became completely out of alignment so had to close it manually with a little persuasion to get it closed. Haven't opened it since. Anyone found a garage that could potentially repair these at reasonable cost yet?
I will be making a few calls to local independent Audi specialists to see if they will be able and at what cost. Will post details if I get anywhere...

Welcome to you...that's exactly what happened to mine...and many others...probably a cable snapped, I believe there are 4 cables involved. Please let us know how you get on as many are looking for a reasonably priced solution for this. Maybe one garage could repair 2 or 3 cars at the same time sharing parts from one or 2 repair kits. I would happily leave mine for a few days/a week and collect it afterwards.

Breakthru with open Sky

Just had a call from Stafford (they have been great) They confirm that Stockport Audi have the A2 jig They lend it out to other garages if required It was bought when the A2 was first out
Oh no now I have a third option (but still a big bill)

What have they quoted Mal? Are they trying to sell you a new one or fix the old one with the repair kit which costs about £150 plus labour?

Open sky

hi
Stafford couldn't give me a price Going to call in morning so will post as soon as I know
I also spoke to a bodyshop friend who assures me it could be done with out the jig but labour would go up as it would be harder but results should be fine mmm
Going to drop into A4Audi tomorrow
Few options to explore
Worst thing is
My previous A2 110,000 no open sky problems hardly ever used it Saturday I was showing off no one else had a dramatic sunroof like the A2 (thankfully i drove away oblivious to what the next hour would bring me)

Depends what they charge per hour....Audi labour charges are usually very high. Try and get a fixed-price quote...dont let them charge by the hour if possible. Let us know how you go....

My OpenSky was a bit flaky at the weekend - the rear panel refused to open for a few seconds, and then opened with a big clunking popping noise - was as if the panel was glued shut! Perhaps the volcanic ash?

Slightly worried now so will follow this thread with interest.

open sky

Well I have made very little progress towards getting my o/s fixed
So far
Stafford have been helpful fine when Im 300 miles away
Stockport never returned any calls
Stirling Audi shall do a report on it on Thursday Cost £60.00
A4Audi refuse to even touch it as they consider it Audi problem to fix
So looks like I am going to have a fight on my hands
Will update after I have been to Stirling
Reading all sorts of consumer advice
After being badly turned over by HMRC I could do with out the hassell but there is no way am I paying 2750
Sad times:mad:

1st email regarding open sky

Hi ****
An update
Im not making very much in the way of progress with the open sky sunroof. I spoke to your service department who told me that more information would be available at Stock port Audi as they had the jig required for the repair though no one calls back despite several calls
A4Audi refuse to touch it as in there opinion its Audis problem as the car is only six months old
As Im sure you appreciate Im not very happy having sold an A2 for 3500 and 117000 miles with a perfect and still working open sky to pay way over book value for what should be a premium example to end up in this position
I am due to take it to Stirling Audi who shall carry out a visual diagnostic for £60.00 and advise me from there
I hope we can resolve this matter without a great deal of hassle
Cheers
Malcolm
