Can you open fuel cap cover manually?

Our fuel cover filler switch fell off today, we tried to replace it but think there may be a spring that is missing, is there any way of opening the cover manually to enable fuelling.

Our problem is we are holidaying in Majorca with the car at the moment and can get a replacement part when back home in the UK, but meanwhile we will need to fuel the car (fortunately the tank wasn't empty when it happened).

Not sure if there is an Audi dealership here in the North of Majorca, I have very limited Internet access to be able to find out.

I would be extremely grateful if anybody could offer advice for our problem.

You're in luck; opening the fuel cap manually is dead easy...

Open the boot. On the right hand side, you'll see a vertical plastic cover to allow you to change the rear light bulbs. Open the plastic cover and you'll be able to access the mechanism for the fuel cap. Normally speaking, when you press the fuel cap release button, a solenoid pulls a metal bar downwards, releasing the catch. If you pull that bar downwards yourself, the fuel cap will open.

Cheers,

Tom

Doesn't look like there are any dealerships in the North of the Island, the closest looks to be Germovil, Audi and VW dealership in Gran Via Asima 18 and Polygon Av, which wold mean a trip down the MA13, looks like junction 2 is the closest.

you can also contact us by calling the telephone number 971012022 or 971012023 (spare parts department)

Thanks for your kind responses, we removed the button from the car and think we may have managed to put it back together (doesn't seem to be a spring in it), we will try it later to see if it works. Good to know there is a dealership on the island if all else fails and also that we can release the fuel filler flap manually if needed!

We have driven our A2 over here with the intention of leaving it here as we have a place here and visit regularly. We managed to pick up a left hand drive one but that's another story.

All fixed and mobile again!

Spring will be under your seat hiding somewhere but once broke (the two plastic prong bits snap) it can't be properly fixed but could be temporarily fixed by putting a piece of sello tape over it to stop it falling off, it should still operate normally then as long you have put it back together correctly.

My button has stopped working, luckilly I had already read this sthread so I knew what to do, is the solenoid on a separate fuse, or does anyone have any suggestions for a repair? I suppose the easiest thing to do would be to take it (the solenoid) out & test it.
