car stalling and problems starting

We are having problems with our A2 stalling when pulling up at roundabouts and lights etc, also problems starting it on a morning. We have had a diagnostic done and it came up with a fault on the inlet manifold but nothing specific.
The engine managements and epc lights are also on constant.
Anybody have any ideas what the problem could be?, Its a 1.4 petrol model.

Get it down to a dealer asap, even if it's not under warranty. They can diagnose the problem for you and then you can choose whether to have them do the work, or whether to let an independant (or even yourself) fix it.

Having just had something similar with our 1.4 petrol - check the throttle body - ours was cleaned by the dealer and the engine managment light reset - and by the way, fully valeted and the tyres dressed - big up for Northampton Audi there. By all accounts now drives like a rocket...

Financial damage was £115 - essentially an hours labour...
 
starting issue

i have a similar problem but my 1.4 petrol SE wont start at all, we appear to have full battery power its been into the garage they replaced the starter motor which appeared to have fixed the problem three or four starts later the problem was back, all the dash lights come on ok all apperas fine but when you turn the key there is nothing. the garage guys say there is power getting to the starter motor and they can get it to work for a couple of starts but then it fails again, they were convinced it was the starter motor again so they had replaced the replacment starter but the problem remains. Does anyone have any ideas ?
 
have a look to make sure that the erith's are good on to the engine and rest of car eg batery ect

Check the ignition switch is ok. The best test is if you experience the fault again, hold the key in the start position and gently move the key around in a circular motion while in the start position.
If the car starts with this method, you need a new igniton switch. Not expensive.

I have exactly the same problem, engine light constantly on with the EPC light coming on intermittently. However, the stalling of the car is an ongoing frustrating problem, and therefore the wife will not drive it with out daughter in it, as she's adamant that one day it wont start.

Audi replaced a sensor, which was supposed to resolve the problem and it hasn't (£180). The next option is to run a couple of trouble shooting exercises at my expense, which will prove very costly.

I have just registered on the website and was keen to find out whether there is a 'known problem' or 'quick fix' to this problem. I love the car, but hate the problem.

All suggestions welcome. Fingers crossed.
 
Petchio, my wife is exactly the same. She wont drive it either or put the daughter in it, she has now claimed my X5 so I am stuck with the A2 and the problems. It is going into Audi for a diagnostic and hopefully they can tell me what the cause is. I have been told its either a throttle problem (needs a good clean out) or an intake manifold sensor. Will post the outcome when its been in.
 
having read the previous threads I have asked my local mobile mechanic (next door neighbor) to clean the throttle body this Thursday. In his opinion it should resolve the problem. Will let you know the outcome!

This seems to be a common problem with the 1.4 petrol models - I've just added my own post in this forum, I am experiencing similar problems with my A2 1.4 SE (02 reg).

I have had the throttle body cleaned, then inlet manifold replaced (£620!) and then new injectors (cost as yet unknown).

The new injectors seem to have stopped the warning lights, but now the performance of the car has been greatly reduced. It's now very easy to stall at traffic lights & rundabouts.

Just spotted this on the Mk4Golf web site. I've also heard that mis-reading coolant sensors don't always show a fault code, so it could be worth investigating

If your engine idle speed is erratic, too fast or your temperature gauge goes crazy, then I'm willing to bet your coolant temperature switch is knackered - it is a very common problem on the 1.6 engine and also other petrol engined models''

thanks for your replies to my post,as a reminder of my problem here are the core details when i turn the key to start the car on the third click nothing happens apparently there is only 1 volt getting to the starter motor when this happens, however this problem comes and goes. What has been tried so far... ok here we go apparently the garage have checked the earth and say its fine, as mentioned they have changed the starter motor thought it was the alternator but discounted that, thought it may be the battery but not sure, think it could be the lead that runs from the battery to the starter motor but cant say for sure, so basically in a nutshell my problem remains , however the garage have said that they have disconected the cable that feeds the starter and pulled it inside the car when they try and start it they get 13 volts going to the end of the cable, they feed the cable back into the engine bay with out reconnecting it and get 1 volt going to it, so the cable you may think, they wont say for sure though, the weird thing is they reconnected it back to the starter and i will start. But for how long im not sure, has anyone had a similar experiance or got any thoughts on what ive got?

could it be a break in the cable when pulled out 13 volts when put back with bends and turns some of the strands of the cable don't make contact IE 1 volt

have they checked the volts when they turn the car over at the starter to see if it changes from 1 to 13

This may sound a bit starnge but I have known this type of problem to be down to poor electrical connection at the connectors, they may seem to be crimped OK but you only need a slight amount of resistance due to a bad connection and you end up with the problem you experience.
I would remake the connections if you have acces to the right tools.

As per my previous thread, I had my local mobile mechanic take a look, who specialises in 'technical' issue,sbearing in mind his van looks like Starship Enterprise. Anyway, he has resolved the engine light and ESP Light problem, but more imporantly, no more stalling. We're back on track. All for £55.00.

I'd highly recommend him, call Stuart on 07719420046.
 
with ref to my problem as mentioned earlier in the post, finally got someone else to look at the car and it was a bad engine earth, supposedly the original garage checked this,....... obviously not

I did clean throttle body out a few months ago - did the trick but has returned.

will try and clean again at weekend. last time it was well crudded up - down to crank breather ??? what crap !

£100 odd for the sensor - more crap !!!! :mad:

i did some work on my sisters 1999 primera and had to take pipe off throttle body (just to do a service - to get to fuel filter) throttle body was clean as a whistle - looked like new (80k miles)
