The following faults were found:
01320 - Control Module for Climatronic (J255)
49-10 - No Communications - Intermittent
01562 - Rear Right Door
59-10 - Can't Unlock - Intermittent
01562 - Rear Right Door
61-10 - Won't De-Safe - Intermittent
01559 - Drivers Door
61-00 - Won't De-Safe

The Right Rear Door, when opened, does not cause the interior lights to come on (possible microswitch failure?). It has been like that for a few months.
The Drivers Door failure is more recent I think.
The Climatronic communications issue has been around for a few months too I think.

Is my CCCU failing? Is there anything I can do to prevent or postpone failure? (drying packs in the compartment?, etc)
What CCCU model(s) should I be on the lookout for in the second-hand market?
Does anyone know (through Lau?) what components fail, and which should be replaced to refurbish this model of CCCU?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mike,

Both doors having the non de-safing fault look to be, as you say, microswitch failure. Typically, there would be more faults if the CCCU were faulty. The microswitches are known to go wrong, and often do. Unfortunately, the microswitch cannot be replaced on its own as it is part of the lock assembly on each door. Replacement of this involves stripping the door down, sadly. There is a guide for this here. http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthrea...-door-micro-switch&highlight=door+microswitch

I don't think your CCCU is failing, this is common of microswitch failure as noted above. It is possible to swap CCCU's for more reliable 'later' units, although keys will need to be coded and you may even need new halves of the keys with the buttons on, dependant on the CCCU revision that you swap to. I'd look at getting the switches fixes first, if I'm honest.

Matt. :)

It's good to hear that the CCCU might be OK! :)

What might account for the intermittent communication problem with the Climatronic module though, if it is not a problem with the CCCU internally? Wiring? Climatronik module problem? Any easy way to check?

I've seen the thread you linked to, and also watched the youtube video linked to in this forum in which the microswitch is replaced (in a Golf's lock assembly I think). I'm wondering if anyone has any specialist knowledge about the type of microswitch to get? Are there some that are rated/built to withstand dirt/grime/humidity/water etc, and is that the kind that was used by the OEM? Either way, I'm assuming a run-of-the-mill microswitch would work as long as its dimensions and functioning is the same. I might take the Rear Right assembly out and see how feasible it is to just fix the microswitch without having to resort to using hack-y methods.

http://www.a2oc.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=11229&d=1357312784 shows my CCCU's model number to be the "newest" in that category. I wonder if one from another category would work.

Thanks for answering.

Hi Mike,

Regarding the Climatronic module fault, I'm not entirely sure. All I can suggest is to check and clear faults on the Climatronic controller, the instrument cluster and then on the CCCU. Failing this, you could check the wiring is sound to the Climatronic unit and CCCU. The Climatronic unit pulls out fairly easily, with multiple plugs behind and the CCCU is in the left hand side footwell. Both these units, and the instrument cluster are connected over a 'CAN BUS' network. This uses two wires between each item to communicate, though if the wiring were to be damaged or disconnected somewhere, this may show as a fault similar to yours. I can't be entirely sure, but that would be my first plan of action. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than myself may be able to help?

I'm totally unsure about the microswitch, I'll leave for someone else to comment.

For swapping the CCCU to one from a different category, physically, another should fit. All of the plugs are the same as far as I'm aware. As I mentioned in my last post, the problem arises when you cross categories and need a different remote half of the key. The frequency changed at some point during the A2s production, and certain key's will not work with some CCCUs. I myself am currently changing from a Q type to an AF type, but doing so means I have purchased two remote halves of keys as the current ones would not work.

Hope this helps. :)

Regards,

Matt.
