CCCU location

Hi guys. I've been browsing the threads on the above and I think I'm going to have to go for a CCCU replacement because of ongoing central locking problems. I gather from posts that it's under the front passenger footwell. I couldn't find a picture but 'under the footwell' means that I need to do something like the following: 1) Remove trim holding down front passenger carpet 2) Remove carpet 3) Presumably unscrew some kind of covering panel 4) Unplug the CCCU. Is that about correct? Cheers!

You'll see a hump in the carpet that runs from sill to centre tunnel, where the seat bolts to.

Get your fingers in there - there's a join in the upholstery at that point. Pull back with force, toward the glovebox and you'll see a triangular aluminium panel with 3 x dzuz type fasteners. Undo those and you'll be presented with the convenience unit at the top of the stack of controllers (the engine ECU is next down under it).

There's a couple of plastic tabs which need pushing back to release the CCCU and it's easier if you release it first, then take the plugs out.

Hi. Here’s the unit. I haven’t yet tried to get it out. It seems pretty solid in there as you’d hope! I can’t see what you mean by clips to be undone before unplugging the wiring. Or did I misunderstand? Thanks!

AF CCCU's slot into place and all the sockets for the plugs are the same, you can also use AE if you have 4 electric windows. But all the newer ones need key fobs which transmit a slightly different frequency. Those fobs have a D on the end of their part number (visible when you split the two halves of the fob).

It's easiest if you buy an AF/AE CCCU which has the button half of the matched key fob (preferably two of them) with it. Otherwise you'll have to get "D" fobs and get them coded to the CCCU. In either case you then just attach the key/transponder half of your old fobs to the button half of the new ones.

With the newer CCCUs you also have the option to go for the newer 'banana' shape fobs but I believe this would involve blade cutting and transponder coding to your ECU, as well as the button unit coding to your CCCU.
