Hi,
I am picking up my first A2 on Friday and wanted to find out if installing a multi cd changer or new single cd head unit is an easy install to do myself or is it best left to the experts ? Any help\advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
P666

I went the multichanger route( I needed a new head unit too)Check out my recent posts in Audio and Interior sections of the forum.
If you decide on the single CD unit I know a bit about which ones will fit and replacement is very simple - get Audi to remove your old unit( special keys needed)plug and play!

Thanks mate. I check when I pick up the car which I should install. Out of interest what head unit and changer did you opt for in the end ?

Don't you think it is cheaper to buy an iPod and an ICE Link? I have a front loading 6 disc Symphony and NEVER use the CDs anymore as I only listen to the iPod... so think carefully before spending a lot on a multidisc CD changer... I will never ever specify one on a new car. With the iPod you have ALL your music with you ALL the time instead of just 6 CDs!!!

My A2 came with a Pioneer CD player which I changed for a Chorus II Cassette head unit( just like the one fitted at the factory!) just so I could fit the CD changer - and I prefer the OE look of the chorus. I would have had a concert II CD player but the E bay prices were around £200 (it's a popular upgrade).
I got an original A2 CD changer from Ebay and the boot trim and cable from Audi.
Total cost approx £350 but would only have been £250 if I'd had the original chorus.
The trick with head units is to make sure the fascia measures 220mm X 58mm as some are wider at 235mm (for the A4) Apart from that I belive any Concert II or Chorus II will fit.

Has anyone managed to successfully put a multi changer in the glove box and if so can you please tell me which one fits ? I don't think that I want to go down the route of having to buy the trim for the boot install at the cost of an extra £100!

A lot of people on the german forum have installed the "6-disc-slot-in-changer" that Audi sells (and you can often get on eBay) into the compartment below the radio.... it seems to fit well and you don´t have to string the cable all the way to the back...

Bye, Frido.

Hi Frido,
That is exactly what I'm after to be honest. Does anyone know the part number ? I'll have look on ebay now.

Cheers!

Thanks Beta. I saw this one earlier and am currently watching it to se how high it goes before I start bidding. It looks as though it is a straight fit which will be nice and simple to fit and hopefully will look good too!

Okay, I am on the verge of getting the original Audi 6 cd changer, but I need confirmation from someone that it will go in the space under the climate control unit? I don't want to buy the changer hoping to put there and be dissapointed when it doesn't fit.

From memory I believe the bottom slot is not a full size DIN slot and it may mean re-locating the CC control unit at the bottom.

There are probably posts in the archive about this.
