Central locking either won't unlock or lock

For the past 4 months I have been experiencing very erratic behaviour from my central locking. The car will either refuse to unlock on pressing the key button. I have to unlock the door with the key & on turning the ignition on all the doors unlock, or on turning the ignition off and removing the key doors unlock as expected, but when I try to lock the doors when leaving the car, I press the button on the key & nothing happens. If I then open the door put the key in the ignition turn on & off (not starting engine) remove key & close the door it will then lock on the remote [13].

I rang my dealer... Bad move there then, no prize for guessing the response... No Sir we've not come across that before. So I asked that they made a record of the problem on the cars record, we can't do that we don't keep records [1], but don't worry just bring it in and we'll have a look at it. But it's intermittent... Hmmm well see how you get on [27] need I say more. I've been making a note of when it happens, but there's no common thread & it's only doing it about 8 times a month. The only thing I haven't tried is changing key for the spare, might do that this week.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Yep I did, they changed the computer gizmo thingy under the passenger footwell. All under warranty, otherwise arms and legs.

new battery or "re-coding". May help, may not. Good luck!

checked the battery, it was fine. Spare worked, other only started working again after turning ignition on and off, I've resynced the key so time will tell.

Thanks for the ideas
