My remote control has stopped working. The switch to lock all the doors fails to operate and I can only lock the driver's door manually leaving all the others open. Not exactly a great help when my A2 is parked on a busy London street overnight. Can anyone help?!

The radio frequency remote can become 'out of sync' with the car. Look in the manual as to how to reprogramme it.

Usually involves sticking the key in the door lock and doing some combination of turns.

This problem can occure more frequently if you operate the remote when you are some way away from the car.

Of course it could just be the battery in the remote!

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

I had a similar problem, solved under warranty but involved changing the computer under the passengers feet. Very expensive I'm told. Hope yours isn't that, or your warranty is still valid.

Hmmm... just had this as well. As Steve says, this looks like a resynchronization problem; mine happened when my son got hold of the remote control and played with the buttons for hours :(. Took about 30 seconds to fix once I'd read the manual. (Actually, it took two days because I read the manual incorrectly the first time
[:I] and 30 seconds after my second reading...)

We had a simular problem but with our car the whole electrical unit had to be replaced.
Cost normaly about € 800 but 1 phone call to Audi headquarters here in the Netherlands made our dealer replace the unit for 50% of the price and they charged only that thing not the hours.
I thought that that was good service as our car is allready almost 4 y old.

Hello Forum . . .
I have been an A2 owner for some time
(X Regn 1.4 bought new in Germany, but in daily use in Oxford)
and wonder whether any other owner has experienced a similar problem?
Both my rear doors and electric windows do not operate. The doors
cannot be opened from either inside or outside of the car.
Audi Oxford say it could be the Control Unit (£200 plus labour)
or it could be motors in each of the doors - they claim they need to
destroy the panels to get access to the inside of the doors, and that
I would need to pay for any other parts (such as handles) that they
might just happen to destroy along the way... Total bill £1,500 !

Any ideas ?

Utter rubbish. Access to the window motors is simply a matter of removing 4 screws and some pulling on the door trim. Nothing will be destroyed in the process and IF they do any damage, it could only be some plastic studs (hence no significant costs).

Watch out for that dealer, is my guess! They might bill for unnecessary things.

Just FYI, to read about removing the trim, read my small 'guide' here. There's also a link to some pictures of the inside of your door. The large black thing in the center of the door is the window motor.

And as for your problems: I find it hard to believe that both window motors would burn out together.
Do they make any sound at all? Do they try to work? If not, it might simply be a fuse. Check the manual to see which one it might be.
And as for central door locking: those motors are somewhat more burried inside the door, but still accessible. Especially for a dealer.
I'd say they should be able to diagnose the problem quite fast and then either blame the motors, or blame the Control Unit. And of course, the latter is expensive...

Good luck,

Edo

Thanks for your comments -
I have written to Customer Services - Audi UK, so I will update
you all (if they reply...)

There is no sound at all from the electric windows at the rear.
My understanding of the fuses from the handbook is that the doors
and windows are fused left and right, and not front and rear.

Oddly now, when setting off, there is a 'kerchunk' from the
locking system after a few seconds like for example new BMW's
do for 'personal security'.

The sunroof no longer closes with the key (and never has done from the remote, as the handbook suggests...)

I will keep you posted . . .

Peter

If that 'kerchunk' happens every time between 5 and 8 mph it is the auto locking feature yes. I have mine set like that. But you have to specially set it as it can't just change itself! Your problems do sound weird have to say... But as ever don't just write, phone and phone and phone... it is the only thing that seems to work...
