Central Locking

Hi,

Just a quick question about the central locking - a few months after we got our A2 we noticed that the lights (indicators) stopped flashing when locking the car, after a short while this sorted itself out. However a couple of days ago the wife was making sure that the car was locked and guess what... no flashing lights...

The car locks and the lights flash when unlocking so it is not a massive problem but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and what it was/if it was a symptom of something worse!

It is possibly indicative of a dodgy central convenience ECU, which is a not an uncommon problem. Other indicators (excuse the pun) are interior light problems, alarm problems (as opposed to indicator problems) and climate problems.

A simple scan should be enough to tell you and if under warranty, it is a simple dealer fix (about £200-ish if not covered).

Thanks Mike... Will get it to the dealer sooner rather than later then as we are still within warranty. I haven't seen any of the other problems but if it is just a quick scan then nothing ventured nothing gained!!

Have to say this site is great... Info from everyone is really useful and always quick to answer.

Our central convenience ECU was replaced when the courtesy window closure stopped working. Hold the lock button down with the electric windows open and they should close, does this work if you haven't got rear electric windows anyone?

Interestingly I filled the screenwash on Friday morningand the flap was slightly open. I closed it properly and the lights have been working since... Looks like it was user error!!

Yes, it works if you only have the front electric windows. By holding down the unlock button, the windows drop, and by holding down the lock button, they close. Of course, it only works on the front windows - the rears being manual, don't have the electrical gubbins to be able to operate off the fob.

I thought it would only be useful in the summer to get hot air out of an 'oven' before turning on the climate, although it's great for getting moisture off the side windows in the winter.
