Cheap, non-approved oil that meets 507 spec - Logic & facts

About 1.4 TDI oil (BHC engine) - I am currently running on Valvoline All Season 5w40 (meets VW 505.01).

Can I use oil with newer VW specs (VW 507.00) with 5W30 grade ? I change my oil every 10000 km or 1 year.

Absolutely you can, in fact it's advisable to do so and the 5w30 507 spec you mention is perfect and in fact the correct oil to use 👍

Read post 14, follow the link to the specification comparison chart and make your own mind up.

Hi everyone, on my 3 vehicles I put Liqui Moly Toptec 4100 5w40 My car is a Polo 9n 1.4tdi 75 BNM engine, a Lupo 1.4tdi 75 amf engine, and a Golf mk4 tdi130 asv engine and frankly the engine purrs like a cat

I use Ravenol VMO 5-40 for my PDs, also is suitable for BMW M47 without DPF. 20L bag in my store is €166, probably cheaper in EU or UK.
It has Viscosity Index of 171

Just a quick note to say that Mannol 20L 507 spec is on ebay right now with 15% discount meaning its just over £40 inc delivery.

I decided to go for it given I'm doing annual changes.

Thanks for this thread, I've just bought some for my transporter, different oil, but same company with the same 15% discount code...came in at £32 instead of £60 that was the cheapest I could find anywhere else!!!!

I think Mannol 7908 might also be good for our TDI's. VW505.01 5W/30 and currently only £41.64 for 20L.

505 spec is outclassed by the newer 507 spec in every way. As it’s also very slight on cheaper to go with 507 it’s a no-brainer.

See the Librizol spec comparison tool referenced earlier in this thread HERE.
