Cleaning

Cleaned Karl today. Major effort, he was a dirty boy, but came up as good as new. Used hosepipe to wash down and then Autoglym. We had the Autoglym treatment before delivery and boy does that car come up like new.
Just one problem, we have a hosepipe ban here in southern England after a very dry summer and autumn and there are a certain number of hosepipe police around, know what I mean, who are looking to let the authorities know who have washed their car today.
Well I confess, I washed him today because he was a dirty little *** and yes I used the hosepipe to wash him up and down. Not eccologically sound I know but nevertheless necessary because those car washes are brutal and don't do the job properly anyway and the boy has not had a wash for a month with all that crud that is on the roads at the moment surely my sentence will be reduced if discovered.
Do you have the answer for future?

Something else to remember - car washes can be cruel to A2's and rip up the rear spoiler, smashing the rear window in the process.
I'm sure plenty of people have taken their A2 through a car wash with no ill effects but there have been several intances of this happening.
Just a warning...

I used a car wash once and boy wont be doing that again. Some how water got onto the drive belt and made a hell of a racket until it dried out. I now do my shopping at sainsbury's and while I am doing that the car gets a hand wash from an army of people in the car park washing cars costs me a fiver but it gets a good clean well worth it even the alloys sparkle

Yes , obviously a bucket and sponge is ok, but the main point about a hose is the pre-wash before you start on the spongeing. I feel with all that grime on the car a good soak before-hand is essential to loosen up the filth. Living in the country our cars are covered with debris from country lanes where tractors, dung-spreaders and the like leave their mess.

Arn't there cheap 'Do it yourself' car washes available in the UK?
I find them the best to suit my needs. I wouldn't ever take it to a "drive through" car wash, spending big money for a half decent job. Also, who want's to spray salt**ter all over the car from the recirculated systems that exists in drive through carwashes?

There are cheap diy washes but they use recirculated water. They also use more water than me at home as they are on set programmes and I don't know of anyone who only uses what he needs. i.e. Small car needs very little. Does that make sense? I think you follow my drift.

We have a by-hand car wash in 'Royal' Tunbridge Wells where they use water they collect from the roof! I was talking to the manager one day and he said they had cut their metered water consumption to virtualy nil.

They also do a nice job - pressure spray rinse, wheel cleaner brushed on, sponge down, rinse off, leather and tyre black - all for £7.

Kansas City Car wash at High Brooms if anyone is nearby!

I have mine washed by hand while shopping at the local super market. They do a great job even the alloys sparkle and all for a fiver well impressed

One of the best products around for washing and polishing the car is the Swissol range of products. Their stuff appears to be quite expensive at first but the number of applications you get and the quality of finish is just amazing.

Once the car is cleaned and waxed with their stuff then subsequent cleaning is a doddle with a reapplication of wax about twice a year. The wax is superb and can even be used on the alloys to help prevent the contamination by brake dust.

Expensive but well worth it - www.swissol.co.uk
BTW I don't sell the stuff or get a commission - it is just really good - I have used it on my cars for years. :D

So GrayB you like your car washed in acid rain then!!!

and as for /-\'][\/\/() whats that all about? I use Zymol which is just as expensive but goes on for ever, great finish though, think both products are about the same
