I can see why people are unsure of buying a TDI 90, but I personally prefer them. Extra power without remapping or modifying? That suits me, and if you want to remap them you can have a real flyer. The electronic power/torque reduction is only momentary as the clutch is released
It saves on the complexity and rotational mass of the DMF enabling the engine to rev more freely.
The dmf And particulate filter are the 2reasons why I will not have a latter diesel than the amf or bhc engined A2

I have hardly ever heard of a tdi 90 turbo fail, or should I say I have hardly ever heard of any A2 Turbo grenading (yes it happens of course, it is very rare)
I am not sure why you mention a particulate filter???
As for the DMF as I say a £600 bill every 90k or so (if you maintain your car well) also doesn't wipe out the pleasure of the 90, in my view.
The slight "chirp" you seem to get when accelerating is quite addictive and the power delivery is so smooth thanks to the torque delivery.
My ideal A2 is a TDI 90 with a cracking spec.
