Clutch pedal really stiff high resistance

Hi Marc the newbie again, It's 54 plate 1.4tdi (75bhp i think) SE 90k on clock. The clutch pedal is really stiff and I'm straining to depress it fully is this common issue and more importantly could anyone guide as to the best solution, ps the clutch itself seems fine no slip and dont need to ride high. Many thanks in advance.

clutch is hydraulic, so no reason to get stiff other than the cover is failing, but I would have expected other symptoms

I'm probably explaining my experience incorrectly. There is a lot of resistance in the pedal ie it wants to come towards me so much I am having to use quite a lot of force and strength to press down the clutch to change gear which is not good for my back. It could be that I got use to a 2014 Volvo v60 d4 which is light and fluid on the clutch pedal..... this is agricultural.

err yes the clutch if original will be worn and therefore much stiffer than a replacement clutch. I fitted an LUK clutch to me TDI and was amazed at how light the pedal is. but all clutches are not made equal, I have driven some A2's which have had replacement clutches that where really heavy, make and therefore quality makes a big difference

sound, I would always go for LUK, the thing is there is no sign of the usual slipping of the clutch when its on its way out that I have had before, I genuinely hope its not clutch as I presume that probably means dual mass too and that plus mechanic doing it (I'm not/cant) Im figuring anywhere between 800 and 1100 that I just dont have and cant vindicate at least so early in ownership...... seriously many thanks for your responses and I will ponder them. all the best.

I suggest you read (and digest) the link I left you this morning.

Steve I have now read fully the post link you have earlier today and I want to apologize for being an idiot an x presuming that all diesels have dual mass flywheel just because all mine in the past have.... I now know the a2 75tdi does not happy days so if it is clutch bearing etc it shouldn't be too bad. That said I'll still get the whole car checked by a pro. Cheers
