Something terrible has happened... [:I][:I]

We were driving up to visit my dad last weekend, and stopped on the way to get some food. The cardboard cups for the drinks were left with the dregs in them overnight, still in the cup holders, as we were driving another 4 hours after stopping and didn't arrive until after 1am.

So, no problem you might think, but no - these cups leaked coke into the bottom of the cup holders.

No problem you might think again, clean it out. Well yes, in hindsight I should have known that these cups will leak and checked before I slipped the cup holders closed.

So, driving around a day or so later, I notice something running out from above the radio. Turns out to be coke, which has been sitting coagulating underneath the cup holders and is now entering the top of the head unit.

It still works as a radio and cd player, but the tape door is glued shut with coke and the volume control no longer turns - it also is glued in place.

So, does anyone have any hints for something that will remove coke?

My current plan is to remove the head unit, clean out the housing, open the radio and disassemble the front panel on it, and then clean it all with some switch cleaner.

I would have said WD40 is a good cleaner, and will also lubricate the said parts.

Just watch out for the swarm of wasps after your A2!!!.

Remove the unit and wash all the effected areas in clean water, allow to fully dry and replace. Takes nerves of steel, but it does work. Just avoid getting water on the laser lens.

Remember coke is corrosive and will make a mess of PCB's and unprotected aluminium!

Yep, my plan is to do it all this weekend. I think it needs to be done sooner rather than later. I'm going to stay away from WD40, I'm not sure if the residue it leaves is safe on the plastics and also it's kind of flammable. I wouldn't want a build up of it on the heatsinks in there, and then a load of smoke when 'enjoying' the archers at full stretch. Mind you.....

BTW, the head unit is the original chorus with the in boot 6-cd changer, so there shouldn't be too much stuff in there. I am a bit worried that it might be all riveted together, which would be a problem.

Grrr... I remember an email floating around about what Coke can do to things and in effect to your tummy as well... the acid in it can eat through some interesting things in 24hrs! Good luck! I lesson learnt!
