Collection day

Hi all,

I have spent the last couple of weeks reading as much of the forum as I could and must say that the amount of information and goodwill on offer is great to see.

I am approaching tomorrow with equal measures of excitement and intrepidation as I make my journey to collect my “new” A2. I am making the journey down south from Dundee then driving her back up the road so here is hoping all goes to plan! I have gone for a black 2001 Y plate 1.4tdi with 81k on the clock, which looks to be in good condition for her age and has a full service history plus a working opensky, for how long I wonder ?!

Purchased the A2 to use as my commuting car as now doing a 100 mile daily commute for work and my XC90 although lovely isn’t the most fuel efficient beast. It seemed to fit the bill perfectly and I have fond memories of my dad owning a 2002 red 1.4tdi sport.

Will try and post some pictures once I am back up North......wish me luck

Cheers,
Steven

Welcome to the A2 family
Although we already have a few Steve’s I suppose welcoming another one to THE best Audi forum on the internet won’t hurt as long as you don’t all turn up to any of the many socials at the same time might get a bit confusing ?

May your A2 journey be a long and happy one. Be prepared for a period in your life where little upgrades and big retrogrades will become an addiction. That’s what an A2 does to anyone that falls under its spell (this includes you now you have one)
All the best,
Drew.

Safe travels!!
If it helps, I’ve bought 4 old Audi’s sight unseen. The closest was 40 miles away, the furthest 500 (Edinburgh, so not a million miles from Dundee) and each has got me home without trouble. All neeed the tyre pressures sorting though, as a word of warning

If the opensky is working then it should continue to work. Lubricate it with silicone grease once a year and open it fully once a week without fail. Lack of use is the reason for death of Opensky.

I've been astonished recently at how many A2s there are around Dundee since I got mine - I saw three at the same time parked completely separately in the local supermarket last week on the one occasion I'd not gone out in mine. It's now a surprise not to see at least one (other than mine) every day (usually the same ones in roughly the same places). Mixture of various ages and models.

Dundee....becoming a serious A2 hotspot...could have our own social at this rate.... Can totally recommend SVS in town if needing a much cheaper alternative to going to the stealer. Good guy with decades of vw experience.

I was googling Audi specialists in Dundee earlier tonight and they came up near the top of the list. Their website certainly gave an impression of knowing what they were talking about so good to know that it is more than skin deep.

Cheers,
Steven

Did my timing belt and water pump recently with genuine parts for £299 which is very reasonable indeed. Can walk easily to city centre too which may be a help for when car is in.

Well we are back up the road without any real problems......although the weather did not make for an enjoyable drive! Overall pleased with my purchase and will post some pictures when we have some daylight and no rain.

Before I went down I had been told that they key fobs weren’t working but have just changed out the battery nd that has sorted that minor issue. Next is to get it serviced and a thorough check over.

Will need to look at getting the drivers door check strap sorted and the opensky doesn’t have it’s blind. Whilst that is fine for now come the summer the kids may not appreciate the extra light.....are these easy to pick up?

Cheers,
Steven

Hi,

Finally got some pictures of the car yesterday when I was giving the interior a bit of a clean. Didn’t manage much progress today as I wasn’t venturing out in the snow to give her a wash.

Looks great. I do like a nice black car.

Is that the sport interior? Gear knob looks smart.

Hi,

Thanks.........I was inspecting the OpenSky and it certainly looks well greased up so just need to make sure it is used and looked after. I was pleasantly surprised by the 6 disc changer as it hadn't been mentioned in the advert. It also came with the space saver spare wheel which was an added bonus!

It does have the sport gear knob and steering wheel but not sport seats.........must resist changing them :D

Thanks,
Steven
