Colour restoration (as best as can be done) Question ?

Hi ALl, so we have a Imola Yellow Storm and was wondering what the best method of Colour restoration is possible without a complete respray?

A local body specialist said he would machine mop the entire car using whatever glaze stuff they use and there are no guarantees to its effectiveness as it is yellow :) = £100 ish entire car.

Or

Should I use a local Valeting service that will clay, wash, polish, cut wax etc? no idea on cost though :(

Any thoughts?

cheers

Steve

Take it to a detailer, not a valeting centre....

You'll find one on here www.detailingworld.co.uk or at least see some examples.

I wouldn't let a bodyshop 'mop' my car, I hate the term mop. As if a quick blast with a rotary is some form of magic wand.

I used to do a lot of detailing for the local car club, I see your in Tewkebury, I'm in Malvern. If you have cover I'll do it :)

Heres a yellow integra I did :D

As well as the engine bay :D

It is unfortunate that yellow is a colour that bleaches easily and looses gloss. You just need to return that and "lock" it in. :D

Thanks for the info Little Red.....that integra looks amazing :)

What do you mean 'If I have cover' ? Insurance?
Do you still detail much? I never have the patience :)

Sorry I meant cover as in a garage to avoid the inclement weather :)

I don't detail much now at all really, between work and kids, I rarely have time to keep my own cars tiptop (i do heavy mileage). But when they are clean they sparkle like crazy :D

I'll have to dig some pics out of previously detailed cars :)

Hi,

I restored an old Morris Minor (VERY old, because it was made in the year I was born - 1953).
I spent £4,000 on the paint job and it looked amazing, I then had a specialist firm detail it (I didn't have the time) and it VASTLY improved the appearance and brought out a DEEP shine (black paint shows everything). I have seen detailing done well before and it always amazes me how much it improves even a good paint finish.

So if you want to bring it back to life and can afford a detailing job (as you described) then I am sure you will love the result.

Ahh no garage, we have one but it is so old and small only an old mini would ever fit in it ....plus its now full of junk :)

Think I might look around the area to see if anyone does detailing etc and see what they charge/do etc....may also wait until spring next year.

Cheers

Thats a figure of speach Bret.

I should have written "oxidisation of the clear coat resulting in a dulling effect of the paintwork"

Detailingworld is worth a visit; have a look around and see whats being achieved and the processes involved. :)

Edit: Some good results can be achieved by hand too - the integra above was a "hand detail" not a machine polish - if i remember correctly.
