Constant alarm noise

For the last month, the alarm on the car keeps going off for 30 second burts every minute or so. Audi say there are 4 alarm problems, but as the car is out of warranty, they won't be looking at it with their £85 per hour charge.

My local independent Audi garage has looked at it (£35 per hour) and the computer found over a dozen faults relating to the alarm, climate control, transmission and much, much more. The car needed a new clutch just before the warranty ran out, and I can't help thinking that when that job was being done, this was the start of my troubles.

Has anyone else experienced these problems, and if so, how much to fix them? I really have a sinking feeling that I'm going to have to sell the car as the cosst to fix it will be high.

Any help would be great.

How long out of the warranty is it?

Just because it is out of warranty doesn't mean a company can wash it's hands of these matters. An item must be expected to perform it's duty for a resonable length of time. A 5p pencil that breaks after 2 years of use wouldn't warrant further investigation. But your list of faults sounds unexusable.

It ran out of warranty in November, so not too long ago. As it happens, when the car was at Audi for the clutch job, they scratched the driver door. So, they agreed to give me the MOT and 60,000 mile service for free (actually, only after they offered me £50 first). The service is due next week.

With your response, I shall ask them about these faults again and see where company responsibility starts and stops.

I am a regular reader of What Car? and they often feature this type of problem. Often the dealer or head office will go some way to meeting the costs.

OK, don't expect a full settlement, but you may get 50% of the cost paid or suchlike. Gather as much evidence of the faults, when they occured, recurrence etc. and set up a meeting with the dealer. If you don't get any joy there, you can try Audi UK (good luck there!).

Remember to say how much you like the A2 and the Audi brand. Telling the dealer you won't buy anything from them again will result in them telling you where to go. Make sure they know you want to do business with them in the future so they need to keep you happy.

Thanks again for that. It would be a shame to get rid of the car due to mounting costs, because I feel it is a rruly great small car.

At the bottom of your messages, it says that you now have a Corrolla. Is that right, and are they any good again? I used a few of them when they looked bloody awful cars.
 
New Corolla is nice. Typical Japanese functional car-won't set the world alight with style, but well equiped, good turn of speed, economical and comfy. Not as well screwed together as Toyota would have you believe, but we get that on most cars these days!.

I got the Toyota because I gave up on Audi because of my local dealer (and Audi UK didn't help matters), but I still love the A2!
