coolant gauge fluctuates

Hi all
Recently I ve noticed that the coolant gauge cant reach 90 deg. It fluctuates between 70 and 90 even if I drive hard. Sometimes it reaches 90 deg but for a while only and after that goes down to 70. #
Is it something serious??
It is 1.4 petrol engine with 56000 miles

This is indicative of a faulty sensor and is easily rectified for about £50 in parts.

Do a forum search for coolant temperature sensor G2 and G62
