Copying a Votex Boot spoiler

Iain,

That really does look amazing. I think this superb venture will inspire quite a few of us to do the same since they’re so difficult to obtain these days.

I do need another spoiler myself. Maybe a future group order if I can find a willing supplier who can do the work for us at a reasonable price.

Genuinely top result achieved here.

When are you starting the reproduction work for the rest of the kit. 😂

Kind regards,

Tom

Iain, not sure if you offered it up to different cars, but I found that the end pieces, shaped to fit against one window, didn't fit another.
That said I was comparing a Tdi and Fsi, although surely the same glass panel fits both?

The spoiler sits higher on the FSI I believe, as well as being deeper and projecting further. That suggests a different glass panel to me even if only for the mounting position. Although you'd think the edges would match because they all have to shape to the same D-pillars.

Well that's it into base coat, I've missed 2 or 3 tiny pin holes so I'll need to sort them out before the lacquer goes on but other than that it's looking okay

As far as I can tell the deck lid was available in two versions - early up to 2001 and the other for post 2001 VIN dependant.

The glass came in THREE versions

One for the "normal" AUA, BBY, AMF, ATl and BHC Perhaps when no radio was specified or region specific.

A second for the same engines but with the descriptor "SYMPHONY and CONCERT"

A third version for the ANY and BAD

All these were pretreated and to complicate it further there were two non pretreated versions also!

Looking incredible mate, you should be really proud of your achievements. What you have achieved is pure class, looking forward to seeing the finished product on your A2.

Thanks Darren, It's been a task and a half but I've kinda enjoyed the challenge at the same time. As for seeing it on the car that goes for you and me both pal 🤔

Here's a step by step guide of how I made my boot spoiler, 3mm & 20mm high density plastic, 3mm aluminium rods, aluminium mesh, reinforced filler, ultra fine filler, plastic and high build primer then artic white base coat, XLpro 2k lacquer and God knows how many hours labour
