UPDATE:
Good news! I have just got back from a meeting with Audi's representative sent to assess the 'corrosion' and he is happy to pass the car for a repair under the terms of the warranty.
He gave it a good look at with a magnifying glass and checked all the aluminium panels with some kind of electronic tester (panel or paint thickness?). He said it was unusual to see this kind of corrosion, especially on an aluminium car, and will report back to Audi. I guess I was just unlucky.
Anyway the outcome is just what I wanted so I'm happy. The work is booked to be done in 3 weeks time, should take 3 days and I'll have an A3 to drive around in the meantime - all for £0.00. Result.
