My next door neighbor had I Honda CRV and I checked out the MOT for him and it showed up as a Honda Civic!!!
 
Correct front fog lights, illuminated vanity mirrors, leather hand brake cover, leather gear knob and gaiter and leather rimmed steering wheel and boot false floor are fitted to the SE model.

So I was correct, not an SE.

I was impressed with the condition of the seats (4seater) for the mileage and year.
 
Standard edition. As the headlights were on the last MOT perhaps if they and the rear shocks were done it may be worth another look. As you say the interior is in nice condition. A replacement front bumper and front passenger door could always be fitted at a later date. I can see potential in this car but only if the headlights and rear shocks are replaced before purchase.

Shocks were approx £80-90 on ECP before discount applied.
What cost would a front & rear bumper be?
I have cleaned up the lens on a few of my car's with time and elbow grease.
Do they suffer from anything else?
 
Firstly you have to drive the car. You will either immediately like it or want to walk away, just make sure you and the better half drive it. The bumper(s) and door would be cheaper from our recyclers and if not in a rush could even wait until the correct colour parts are available then just a bolt on job. For the headlights I personally use Mothers Mag and Aluminium polish and not loads of different grades of sandpaper as my way is quicker and causes far less mess. Still mask off and polish with a waffle pad on either a drill or MOP. If the seller is not going to replace these items I would want to give less than £1000 for the car as is. Check the lower front wishbones as they rot if pressed steel. Just replaced mine.
They are 18 year old cars so expect at least a year of finding the results of the cowboys and service dodgers.

Ah found one by A2Steve rear bumper in silver with sensors £110 + postage.
I'll make a note to check for the pressed steel wishbone, my old Fabia had those, I stripped and painted them when I renewed the bushes and Ball joint.
It will have to be an SE though when one turns up though.
 
Just remember most items can be retrofitted including many from the options list so would not worry too much about the current spec. Then you can customise / upgrade to your spec at a far lower cost than originally fitted. Still say worth you and Mrs taking it for a drive even if only to use as a benchmark for others.

I think you were correct in that assumption, SE would be a nicer spec to have and there are enough out there to find a decent one eventually, but don't be put off with any cosmetic issues as they are all fixable and of course part of the joy of the A2, if it were without fault I personally would not love it as much as I do, also you will find most items you require from our forum members who acquire most items from breaking A2 cars or adapting aftermarket parts.

Had a Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDI estate (2001) & did over 100K in it, so that needed my attention to several parts that wear or break. I have my eye on an SE at the moment but it's a bit of a trek to see it.

I travelled 240miles from Devon to South of London to see and buy my A2, if it's worth the trip then make it.

I found the spec I wanted with some extra bits I was happy with (leather seats) and the mileage was good for the price so it was definitely worth the trip, it's all down to homework and asking all the questions you can before you commit to that sort of journey, for me it paid of and I am now a very happy owner of my first A2.
 
As I have said before, "when in doubt, leave it out" Wisdom gained at considerable expense at the hands of a so called reputable trader.

Keep looking, happy hunting, try to find one on here as you are less likely to be bitten. @VAG fool will tell you.

Yes, if a good one turns up, it's worth travelling for it.
I drove from Wigan to Bournemouth for the white one.
And to south Wales for another I bought from A2 Steve.
 
As a previous owner of a standard car (i.e. non-SE), I would definitely recommend going for the SE spec. I owned my last A2 through the heat wave a couple of years ago and the lack of air con turned it into a mobile oven. As others have said most options can be added later, but if you don't have aircon, there's not a lot you can do about it...other than put the windows down and shout!
 
Climate was an option across the range and not a standard fit on any model. Buying an SE will not guarantee climate. In 2003 the climate was an £800 extra....

Ah I didn’t know that - well, I would strongly recommend checking for aircon!
 
Retro fitting climate and OSS are the 2 most difficult but not impossible given time, resources, and available parts. I think the only impossible retro fit is going from a 4 seater to a 5 seater or vice versa.
 
Given that it would need so much more than just the basic power supply in electrical terms, and a large variety of parts mounted in difficult places to access, I'd imagine a climate retrofit would be a whole order of magnitude harder than an OSS retrofit. While the latter does involve relocating one of the roof's lateral structural supports, it's otherwise a mainly physical challenge to fit a complete component assembly. And to date I've only heard of one OSS retrofit (actually seen it too, on @Phoenix's 1.2TDI at AITP a couple of years ago), although I'm sure there must be others. I'd say a climate retrofit is therefore as good as impossible for most intents and purposes.

Just to note for safety's sake, for those who haven't seen the subject discussed before, while the 4-5 seater conversion (or vice versa) looks like it'd be easy, the difference between them lies in the design and strengthening of the entire floorpan of the car. A definite no-no to attempt ?, don't go there.
