Creaky dashboard / steering column

Hello all.

ive got a creaky like plasticy noise comming from inside the cabin front drivers side.
it has'nt allways been there but now its driving me crazy, even with the music full blast i know its there.
when i drive over bumpy/uneven ground its there,on a flat road almost nothing.if i park and move the steering wheel up and down(dont mean undoing the adjuster) the noise is the exact same but stationary.
it sounds like its comming from the steering column, the steering is solid and theres no movment in it when im driving.

its definatlly comming from the inside of the cabin, if i push up on the wheel (put pressure)when im driving it very nearly goes away.

ive got no movment in the bonnet catches and the window wiper is ok.

please can anyone tell me how i can check the full lenth of the steering column to see if there is plastic rubbing on the colunm, ive tried to look from the bonnet but it looks far to compact but can i strip down the dashboard and where my shins would be check there too.
ive read on here of some same noises but people say its a clonking or a rattle, this is 100% a plasticy sound inside the drivers front side.

sorry for the long post but this is doing my head in..

i live in Bexley Thanks:(

Hmm, ominous.
I picked up a squeaky noise coming from the l/f of the car and was convinced its source was internal. It occured when turning the steering wheel to full lock and sounded like rubber or soft plastic being drawn accross a metal surface. The car drove and felt OK...
Jacked it up to check - l/f spring broken and collapsed strut bearing!
Now the car is garaged until i can do the suspension upgrade.
Worthwhile to do a thorough inspection.

update

Hi all.

i have an update to my creaky / plasticy noise comming from my dashboard.

when i stationary i pushed the wheel up and down and the noise was the same as i was driving..ive got no excesive movment in the steering at all,no clonking or knocking.

it was / is comming from right in front of the steering wheel at the windowscreen,i shoved a ice scraper (the rubber one side and sponge on the other with a 6' molded handle) between the front of the dash and the window screen with the handle facing down.
it stopped the noise instantlly..BUT..with terrable concequences?

it cracked the window screen overtime as i drove...DOH!....but the noise went? its only a small crack which i will replace on my insurance.
the thing is i will need to take the scrapper away when they replace the screen but can anyone tell me whats under that part of the dashboard.

is there instructions on how to remove the dashboard and is it hard to do it?
has anyone got some photos of the removal or whats under there, can i get my arm near it from the cabin or bonnet to feel if anything is loose.

there is something loose which is making a noise and its getting worse, when i bought the car there was no noise now after a couple of months its there.
please can someone help me coz im going bonkers and worse of all im thinking of getting rid of it and changing to a different car(i love the a2 but cant take it). sorry for the long post.

thanks for your reply inadvance.

Hi mate

I've just had the dash out for other reasons, and yes its a long and hard job.
You have to literally remove everything from it to get it out

Much dash creaks slightly in the rhs corner near windsreen but there is nothing there to cause it, so there was nothing to fix.

Hi there

I had a similar noise and was convinced it came from under the steering wheel or dashboard. Pleased to find the source of the noise, the overflow tube located at the top end of the engine compartment became loose and this was rubbing against a couple of other cables. Took me 2mins to fix.
