Cruise Control retro-fit..

Almost there but a problem came up with the wires. I do have a Skoda spare part that fits excellent on my A2 (originally bought for my TT) but the wire diagram says like this:
pin 76 (ws)
pin 75 (bl/gr)
pin 57 (ro/ge)
pin 38 (sw/ws)
And, of course, +12V connected to a fuse.
The pins should be attached to the T81a contact on the main computer but the diagram is for a gasser, not a diesel. Pin 75,76 and 57 are free but pin 38 is alredy occupied by another cable.

It's a 2002 1,4Tdi (made in september 2001 i believe)

Is this right? Does anybody have a clue?

Hi Pysslan
Wires from the cruise stalk connector go to a white 17pin connector block (T17b) in the front left footwell. There are also green and blue connectors in the same location and wires from these and the white connector block go to the engine ECU.
I wired my 2001 TDi like this -
Cruise stalk pin 2 goes to blue/black wire on pin 7 of white connector (which links to ECU pin 45)
Cruise stalk pin 3 goes to blue/red wire on pin 8 of white connector (which links to ECU pin 44)
Cruise stalk pin 4&7(bridged) go to white wire on pin 10 of white connector (links to ECU pin 14)
Cruise stalk pin 5 goes to black/red wire on pin 9 of white connector (which links to ECU pin 46)
Cruise stalk pin 6 goes to red/green wire on pin 2 of brake light switch - which links to 12v supply from fuse 30 in fuse box.

You will also need VagCom to activate cruise control

If anyone does this and is in need of a quick hook up with vag-com I'm more than happy to help anyone! I'm in the midlands

Hi and thanks.

So thats what I suspected, the gasser (1,8T) uses a different connector.
Next problem is the colours. Do you think I can assume that blue/green=blue, red/yellow=blue/red, black/red=black/white, white=white and of course +12v that can't be mistaken (different shape). These are the colour of my wires compared to the colours you talk about.
Do you have a scheme for the cruise stalk with pin numbers (which one is pin 2, 3 and so on)? Then it would be easy.

Vag-Com is no problem, I've been using it for 6 years now and the cruise stalk is already activated.

I'm sorry for my bad English but I suspect It's easyer for you to understand in bad English than in excellent Swedish.:)

Hi Pysslan
I don't have any diagrams which clearly show the pins on the cruise harness connector but if you check the connector closely, the pin numbers are marked on it. I can't remember if every individual pin is numbered or only the first and last pin on each row. Don't rely on the wire colours corresponding to those on the car wiring loom. Once I worked out the pin sequence I checked each wire with a meter to ensure continuity and that the correct pins had been connected.
Don't worry about your English, it is excellent - and as you guessed, my Swedish is non existent, even though I visited a company in Ornskoldsvik many times.

Cheers Spike

Solution..

Solved the problem by asking my dealer if he could help me with an instruction

On an engine with code AUA or BBY you should connect as I stated above but on an AMF or BHC engine you should use the following connections:

The pins should be attached to the T81a contact on the main computer.
pin 46 (ws)
pin 45 (bl/gr)
pin 44 (ro/ge)
pin 14 (sw/ws)
And +12V connected to pin 2 on the brakelight.

I have also the pin-number for the BAD engine (how on earth could you even think of naming an engine BAD :D ) if someone is interested.

Unfortenally the colours on the white connector as Spike was talking about wasn't the same on my car so I didn't have the guts to try it.

Hopefully someone else has use for the description and a big Thank You to Spike that assisted me.

And by the way, It's working just perfect...

Hi Pysslan
Good to hear you got the cruise working.
My car was built in March 2001. On later models I don't think the white 17 pin connector has the link wires to the ECU so it would be more practical run the cruise wires direct to the ECU (As Skipton indicates in a later post)
For future reference to other installers, I assume the wire colours you refer to relate to the small harness from the cruise stalk which is different to the genuine A2 part. These coulours vary, depending on the origin of the harness (Mine came from Kufatec and is completely different to the gernuine Audi colours) so it is important to work on pin numbers of each connector block and not rely on the wire colours of the cruise harness.

Glad you got it sorted out.

Spike, the connector you refer to is still a 17-pin block, although most of the pins are unoccupied, it's like this on Tank, a 2005 model year car.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi, tryed asking at vagparts the part number but never got an aswer... What's the part number for the cable that conects to the cruise control stalk(8l0)?

There isn't one! The only cable that VAGParts sells is for the Golf4 or Polo. You have to make one up for the A2.

Mike

Thanks to the advice and info on this thread I have succesfully completed a cruise install on the A2.

As mentioned the wiring is very dependant on what year model etc and what has already been fitted. I had to wire it directly to the ECU as the white connector was not present in my passenger footwell.

Will make the motorway cruising so much easier now!

Should anyone need any help or indeed me to install cruise for them I will be more than happy to help out. I am based in Melksham Wilts but can always travel sensible distances to help people!

Congratulations Paul and well done.

Can I also take this opportunity to remind members that I offer a cruise control fitting service for the A2 (other Audis and Volkswagens also) which many of the 'older' members have taken advantage of.

In 90 minutes, your A2 will be equipped with a genuine Audi cruise system, as if it were fitted at the factory. You get a full diagnostic scan, and fault clearing or re-coding that you might need and the peace of mind of a 2 year warranty.

Aquick spin in Tank is optional!!

PM for details.

Cheers,

Mike

problem with cruise

I have the 1J0 type cruise stalk fitted to one of my A2s and whilst it works ok, the resume button does not work, and there is a bit to much of a jerky motion when increasing the speed!
Can I expect any issue replacing this with the correct 8L0 version, as fitted (skipton) to my other A2?
Is it just a case of removing the cowling and replacing the stalk?

Mike fitted mine and his work is second to none  and Tank what a car just looking at the spec and then a run into the hills and back you just wouldn't belive it.
Thanks again Mike my right leg has not felt better lol

Cheers Phil

thanks again Mike.
Fogot to say that on the 8L version, the resume has a definite slide to the left and spring return to on, whilst the 1J version does not seem to slide to the left.
will let you know diagnosis.

Mine came from Kufatec and is completely different to the gernuine Audi colours
Mine just arrived from Kufatec (great service - very quick) and I was initially puzzled by (a) downloaded pdf guide being in German (painful schoolday memories of being bottom of the class in this!) and (b) all wires in the supplied mini-loom being grey.

On-line translator helped render a mangled English version and after a while I realised that colours (blue, red, white, yellow) were text printed on the grey cables. One was marked "Sicherung" (Protection ??) - does this go to Pin2 of brake light switch? (my Deutlish guide says, "To attaching the current supply (Kl.15) the black line of the GRA of set of cables is attached to protection SB31. In addition simply again those Auxiliary contact bolting device release and contact in put. The protection S31 should be already occupied (mostly the case) the black line with is soldered on."!).

Babel has a lot to answer for!

I also fitted Kufatec's cruise. I suggest you simply figure out what cable is connected to what pin in the cruise switch. This info can then be used to find the correct positions in ECU. Excellent guides are available in German A2 forum and wiring could also be checked from Elsa software. Good luck!

The cable in the Kufatec kit I got had terminals crimped on the end of each wire. Not sure if things have changed but they did not match up with the multi pin connector at the ECU end and had to be cut off so the wires coud be spliced in.
