Finally found a decent car (Silver 03 Tdi SE, CC, CD, 5k) but been offered a crap trade-in price on mine (no surprise there then), with a reasonable discount looking likely on the A2.

Do I chop in my fully spec'd 2.3i Honda (see the For Sale forum) for the A2? Cheaper to run, fun, still fairly practical, more eco-friendly etc etc but no leather, sunroof, satnav, BOSE....

I suppose I know what you lot are going to say but the cost to change will eat all my savings for 18 months and i cant afford aftermarket satnav etc. I don't really need the big car as we've got a BMW 330 as well, which also delivers the fun when I need it at weekends - but can I live with doing 20-25k pa in the A2.

Somebody put me out of my misery one way or another....[30]

I'll put you out of your misery...

DO IT!!!

No seriously, only you can make the decision, but you can be sure you will be getting a fun, economical and safe car as a result. To me the only thing I would truly miss would be satnav which you can get for under £499 now (Blaupunkt TravelPilot)...obviously if you can't afford it, you can't afford it, but it may help ease your worries...

£499 eh - sounds tempting.....then there's your armrest, cruise control, heated mirrors... With a bit of effort I could build an aluminium Accord substitute!

The A2 is a fantastic car - I brought one 2 weeks ago - I traded up from a Renault Clio 1.2RT. Insurance for the A2 was about £30 more and the econmomy is about the same.

I got my A2 from Trade Sales in Slough for £12k with a reasonable trade in of £3k for my 5 year old clio. Any Regrets? Yes I wished I made the purchase years earlier!

Done it!!!

Should pick it up tomorrow night as the dealer wants the deal for the month. Now, just need to join the club and get discounts on all the extra bits I need!!!

Photos posted when it hits the driveway.

Congratulations!! [24]

Drop me an email when you want to join the club as I have a small problem with the joining form at present so I'll have to send you the joining information via email. Remember to send me some photos when possible and I'll add them to the galleries.

Ok but do I do it?
I am being tempted by the dark side - a new 2 TDI DSG A3.

If I do do it, is anyone interested in a 2001 A2 in silver with grey leather sports seats and multichanger? 23k recorded.

What model A2? Email details if you like.

Day 1 - pleased with my choice. Much tighter feeling and nippier than the demo model I had for 24 hrs and much better spec. Good service from the dealer at handover with several unexpected extras - seems rare from other comments here. I'll try and get some photos if this sun persists tomorrow.

Not always - I got bottle of champagne, plus some flowers for the wife!!!! Seems small, however I liked the thought.

maersk - your comment about the mind and parachutes - like it but i prefer to wear a chute just in case whilst teaching aerobatics - if it came open in the ****pit things would get very interesting very quickly! So sometimes an open mind needs a safety shutter otherwise the media, politicians and even well meaning folk could fill it with a load of tosh! I prefer Martin Luther (the german one) who said something along the lines of " you can't stop the birds flying over (or was it scheising on....!) your head but you can certainly stop them nesting in your hair!"

Oh and A3 TDI is a very nice car but out of my current price range - also thought the interior was rather dark cf A2 greenhouse!
