Hi Bret,
to make still use of the crucial negative spring travel (= sag) you also need to change to
longer stroked dampers if using longer wound springs exceeding about 30 mm of car height increase.
Such longer springs should feature the strongly recommended
stock spring rates and also
linear spring characteristics to maintain stock like ride comfort.
In addition the shocks themselves have to supply
stronger bump and rebound damping force characteristics than stock. For that high quality non-shortened and non-rebounded sport dampers have to be applied.
Unfortunately I don’t know of any longer than stock stroked sport dampers available for the A2.
Instead I personally would increase the car height by using the
20 mm spring distance kit offered by WEITEC:
front:
Weitec part # 650 00 172 and # 650 00 314
rear:
Weitec part # 652 30 023
This distance kit should be combined with the standard height A2 springs. In that case you can still use regular stroked shocks => no probs with insufficient negative spring travel!
However to control the now further lifted center of gravity of the already stock “long-legged“ A2, preferably the high pressurised
BILSTEIN B6 dampers (about 420 EUROS) should be applied.
These BILSTEIN B6 shocks do provide
- safe handling capabilities during any driving situation
- better ride comfort on bad road surface similar to Koni FSD
- a further car height increase of about 5 mm due to the powerful nitrogen gas pressure of 25 bars per shock
