Dashboard computer display

I own an A2 1.4 TDI
when i start the car, the dashboard computer display gives me a message 'OK'
but i dont get a display telling me the current 'miles per gallon' etc etc. It looks like there is two displays and its the upper display that i am concerned about. Anybody got any ideas, is there anything i can check or maybe a fuse / quick fix ?? Any hints / tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks Paul
 
If you've got a little divider bar halfway down the screen, then you've got the less sophisticated version of DIS (driver information system), which doesn't show stuff like mpg, average speed etc.

thankyou for your super quick and accurate response. I suppose you think im dumb but i didnt know which models it came as standard. Dont suppose you know if i can upgrade and roughly how much it will cost to get the 'better' on board computer display?

Hi Paul,

No problem pal - and no, it's not dumb to not realise these things.

Unfortunately, it's a costly job to retrofit the high version of DIS - you're looking at £600 for the clocks alone and then there's a load of wiring and coding to do - you'll not get change from £1000-1200.
