Dashcam hardwire installation!?

Hi everyone!

Recently I bought a Viofo A129 duo dashcam and I also bought a hardwiring kit for it but unfortunately my electric skills is rubbish.
I asked some professional and they quoted me for as much as £50 for the installation.

Just wondering if any else did it before like a DIY project?
Where do I exactly need to plug and what?
I believe I still have to buy a "piggy back fuse" and plug it in the fuse box but I don't know where to plug it or what kind of fuse do I have to buy for it.

The wire kit is this one:

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I used these to provide ignition switched power to an accessory socket secured behind the fuse box. I've plugged a dual output USB charger adapter to power my dashcam and QI phone charger only when running though I'll find you a permanent feed as you require that for parking mode. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Quacc-Circ...coding=UTF8&psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_asin_image
I'll take photos tomorrow to show you where to connect.

Thanks for the reply!

I will order one and try doing what you've said. Thanks!

I fitted a triple 12v socket and dual usb box to my car above the fusebox. It came with a male 12v plug on the end, just cut it off and after identifying positive connected it via the piggy back fuse to the fuse box. The earth was then fitted with a crimp on round terminal and a suitable bolt was found just above the fuse box to provide the earth connection. I piggy backed off the wipers fuse as I wanted all to switch off with the ignition. This now powers sat nav, dash cam and phone power. Pretty much as @damadgeruk has done. Again as stated this is only ignition live for a permanent live use the existing fuse for the 12v socket beside the handbrake, but this could flatten your battery unless you are careful. The one I bought was similar to this but without the digital voltage on the plug.

My dashcam is for the moment powered from the headunit’s USB port. Have purchased a 12 to 5V adapter that I am planning to install in the roof console where you have the switched power available.

To use the VIOFO kit on its own, connect the yellow wire to a piggy back and then fit to the wipers fuse and connect the red to another piggy back and replace the 12v socket fuse. The 2 removed fuses fit back into the piggy back to enable the original circuits to work as designed. The earth black lead connect to a nearby bolt above the fuse box. All is accessable after dropping the drivers storage compartment below the steering wheel. Run the usb lead to the right of the dash and up the a pillar trim, then along the roof lining and drop down near the rear view mirror.

There are 2 further thing to note when using piggy backs. 1 They come in two sizes make sure you get the correct size for the existing fuse you wish to run the circuit from and 2. It is important they are fitted the correct way round, the existing fuses have a live side and the other is AFTER the fuse. The fly lead MUST be on the same side as the AFTER fuse terminal, just use a meter to confirm which side has power to the existing fuse and the other which will now be dead is the AFTER side.. Hope this makes sense to you.
