Detailing my A2

Looks very nice, you can really see the gloss on black you have to have the right light for silver to look good

Cheers Phil

PS Mike the gauntlet has been laid, we will wait for Tank now lol

Stunning work. :D

Yes a clay bar is the only way to get paint properly clean (after a shampoo of course...and don't forget to re-wax afterwards). :)

Nice job!

Does a clay bar really make that much difference?

Absolutely!

I've just got some practise in today by doing Angies Yaris (Chilli Red - flat colour) and the difference after just claying the car is amazing. All the little tar spots and surface contamination has gone and after a thorough paint correction session with Meguiars #80, a red sponge finishing pad and a machine polisher, followed by a wash and towelling down then a coat of Collinite 476, the paint is unbelievably smooth and the gloss on the car is better than when it left the factory (like me, Ang has had the car from new).

Bilt Hamber clay is probably the best - about a tenner for a 200g block which only requires water as a lubricant, no expensive sprays.

Go on - give it a go. I guarantee you won't regret the purchase.

Cheers

Mike

I think you should do a show and shine lol, that should up the antie:eek:

Cheers Phil

LOL!!! Aye, we could polish the inside of the exhaust pipes and wax the wheel arch liners like the concours d'elegance zealots with the trailered examples of pampered automotive OCD! But none of that will last too long on Perthshire roads!!

Concours may well be a hobby of mine when i retire - and a classic A2 could be a worthy car to show in 20 years or so :D

Completely agree with you Murdi - I've no objection to a nice, shiney outside and inside, but when you get into polishing the engine bay, something is not right!

Cars are there to be enjoyed, not an outlet for OCD!

I've never been one for cleaning in the past, but the satisfaction I got from doing Angies car today was great and I think Tank will be kept pretty clean from now on - the Collinite is meant to last a year or so anyhow.

Cheers,

Mike

PS Threads merged.

I think we should have another section just for all things valet and detailing

Cheers Phil

I agree. Lets see what the owners think:D

We help each other out with everything else, so cleaning our wee treasures should be no different. Theres a tool box full of lotions and potions for car cleaning in the garage and I'll be happy to trade recommendations with other A2OC'ers. I look at detailing world now and then, but its a bit too OTT for my liking!! And I'd prefer it we had handy tips and product ratings on here:D

Careful- it gets addictive! A good wax does last for ages if you maintain it by using a quality shampoo with luke warm water . I only do a deep clean and wax twice a year - and once you have the car prepared and sealed, its easy to keep clean as road grime just doesnt stick the same as it used to! Cheers for merging the threads Mike. :D

It does get addictive i suppose thats why i do it as barra' jobs from time to time, plus i do like to see clean car, and its the faces of people when they get there car back and they think its like new. But i'm not OCD over it HONEST
