Diesel leak, rear offside

Hi all,

I brimmed the with fuel car earlier, and once it was full diesel started leaking out underneath the driver's side rear passenger door. It was dripping from two points, so I assume the source was much higher up and it was just running down two different paths. This would place the source near the filler flap, so could it be a vent flap stuck open, or is it more likely to be a perished plastic/rubber component? Initial flow rate was about three drips in two seconds. I've not noticed this before, and although it slowed down dramatically after five minutes of driving and a few hours of stationary park, it started up again when I drove another ten minutes this evening. Any ideas before I drop it into a garage? 1.4TDi 51 plate.

Cheers,
Paul

Without seeing pictures it's a difficult one to diagnose. A fellow a2 owner had issues with a valve system / black plastic housing that 4 fuel pipes went into in the same area described. I beieve said item was on earlier cars and yours as a 51 plate may be just on the threshold. This is no longer available from Audi and it can actually be removed with sourcing new pipes from Audi to bypass it as per later cars. The item was located under the rear offside of the car and as stated identified by 4 fuel pipes entering it. We managed to facilitate a repair on his as it was a screw that had rusted and head snapped off.

Sorry not hugely specific!

it could be the fuel filter housing?
It has an over pressure by pass in the nut head.
Im not sure the change was as early as that though, its just the newer ones under the O/S/R door

I had a similar thing, but with mine the fuel gushed out at quite a pace.
But only when the car was filled up to the brim.

The cause was a small pipe on the breather / overflow system at the top of the filler pipe coming loose.

Once that was repaired all was well.

So hopefully you will not be landed with a big bill (like a Pelican!)

*crosses fingers* I hope this is the case!

Going to pop it in to a garage tomorrow afternoon, got meetings in the morning so free all afternoon.

Any VAG garages in south-west Manchester (Sale/Altrincham area) to recommend?

I thought that recently we had a recommendation in that area?

Can anyone suggest a decent mechanic / garage in that area please?

I use Audi Doctor in Hazel Grove, Stockport http://audidoctor.co.uk

Others use VAG Technik in Eccles http://www.vagtechnik.co.uk

Cheers mate, I ended up taking it back to the sales garage I bought it from to see if it could be a warranty job (only had the car two months), and they referred me to the garage they use for their MOTs. Twas a leaky seal on the pump underneath the rear passenger driver side seat, the bloke just took the rear seat out, pulled up the floor, removed a cover and hey presto, there was my diesel leak. Warranty job, happy days! Going to get him to have a look at my front springs and wheel bearings while he's there, see if anything else needs done that the warranty covers.

In other news, the garage had no courtesy cars but had just got another A2 in on part-ex with tax still valid, so I insured it for a few days to get me to and from work. The thing is knackered, orange engine warning light on, airbag light on, gearbox is sticky (esp from 2nd-3rd, I think the springs are gunked up as the lever doesn't flick about like on mine), pulls to the left under acceleration and braking. Poor thing's had a tough life I reckon. He's selling it on as trade at some point (Ringley Car Sales, nr Kearsley off A666), so if anyone is looking for a spares/repair project then they might be worth giving a shout. 04 plate 1.4TDi, 120k on the clock, SE trim with scuffed alloys, black cloth interior (bit scruffy, needs floormats and a stereo knob, but everything works that I've tried except a couple of fan outlets - maybe a flap problem? Air flow rate is good through the air con).

Puts my minor A2 niggles in perspective, it seems I got a pretty clean example after all!
