Has anyone fitted heated wing mirrors to their A2s. I know Johann has and I would like to know if ther are easy to fit. How do you go about
removing the mirros ?

They are now available on the vag parts website.

2002 TDI SE - Silver - Open Sky System

I fitted heated mirrors to my car on Friday night and it was very straight forward even in the dark.
You take off the bottom plastic part of the mirror housing using your torx driver (two screws). You can see the round plastic area at the rear of the mirror glass (have a look on your replacements). Using a small screwdriver lever off one of the small hooks holding the glass on and firmly push the glass forward. It will move on the adjustment mechanism and then pop off. You should find two neatly coiled wires that just connect to the rear of the new glass, then line up the glass on the housing and give a firm push and make sure it has clipped on properly. Replace the bottom plastic.
All in all it took about 5mins per side.
If there is a better way I'm sure someone will let you know...
Cheers
Ray....

Thanks Ray !

Have just ordered them...

Ray,

Which bit do you need to prise with a screw driver. Its a bit of a catch 22 situation if you do not yet have the replacement units to hand (which you will only order when you can confirm the existence of the wiring loom).
I pulled one of the pawls (hooks) off the lip, but then it snapped off. Not certain which bit I should have been pulling/pushing.
Any chance of a photo?

Ray - is there any chance you could write a brief fitting guide for other members of the A2OC with a few photos? It doesn't need to be as elaborate as the other guides, just something for people to use in the future.

I thought they were operated when you turned the rear window heater on.....I also think someone said the temp had a bearing on their operation (only work when it's low enough or automatically operate when the temp is low-can't remember).

The heated mirrors in my Corolla come on with the rear window heater.

Steve, I also seem to remember someone saying it was when the temp was low enough, e.g. below 5c.

I'll try and get a photo this weekend, sorry I won't have a chance to do it sooner. I basically used a thin screwdriver on one of the hooks until it was just free then pushed quite hard from the back of the mirror while giving a gentle tug from the front (slim fingers help here). I was tempted to use the screwdriver force the mirror from the front but too juch scope for paintwork damage.

Ray.....

(1.4TDI SE with new wiper, heated mirrors and Kenwood Stereo and nothing else planned.....yet)

Have now removed mirrors to establish that wiring is present.
Also checked for volts when HRW switched on. Noted that the voltage was pulsed (at least at 17 degrees C ambient).

You can order them from VAG Parts Kia... Martyn is very helpful and will give you 10% discount if you're an A2OC member...

Got the kit from Martyn last Friday, and fitted them in a few minutes.
Seem to be very effective, but of course the weather has since changed...

Now you'll have to wait a whole season to check if your handiwork has worked!!! Or go on a driving holiday to the north pole maybe? :D
