Our 3 cyl tdis have unique flywheels with built-in counterbalance weights. It's therefore not possible to use a single mass flywheel conversion kit based on the more common VAG 4 cyl flywheels which don't have this feature and would result in severe engine vibration if fitted.
Some advertisers also sell a kit which supposedly suits both the 75 and 90 tdi engines even though the 90 has a larger dia flywheel
I'd also be concerned about possible gear chatter - a characteristic reported quite often on VAG owners club web sites.
Just a few things to check out before deciding

Cheers Spike

Hi Spike im going for the Luck d/m complete kit £345..5 year warranty....

Cheers Spike, I have just read the said info and yes very informative too....I must say im no here in Norfolk and she drives a treat gear changes are smooth and precise to no judder/slip either...I can see its a gearbox job out to find out what is is grrr lol

.... and to confirm, I didn't go for a single conversion despite my questions at the start of the thread.
Vince confirms it has been done, but he was forced to revert the car in question back to dual mass after the owner found it unbearable.

Like spike suggests, our 3 cylinder engines require a lot of balancing.
Lord knows why there seems to be such disparity between a 75 and a single converted 90, must be down to crank counter weights, maybe?

All my other cars have light weight flywheels fitted, but this is my daily driver after all.

iv done a normal clutch convo with ptw gearbox on my tdi90.. i dont suffer any chatter.. got a flywheel from a 3pot polo..and a amf clutch kit.. mines is mapped with no slip or chatter

Can you give more detail on this mate? So you've used a solid flywheel from a 1 4tdi polo and mated it to a normal AMF clutch kit?

In a nutshell yes. £20 flywheel and flywhhel bolts from the scrappies along with a brand new valeo clutch kit

Does anyone know if the flywheel enzo mentions from the polo is just a standard a2 tdi75 flywheel, as they seem to share flywheels, part number 045105273. I'm thinking of trying the smf on my tdi90 as the cost difference significant and if it works it doesn't need doing again..

Always use new bolts when fitting a flywheel the cost is minimal compared to it working loose.

You need a 75 flywheel and the counter balance weight on the end of the crank pulley.
i have a 75 flywheel, uprated clutch, lever, and a bag of various bolts waiting to be fitted sitting in the garage. !

Whatever you do do not use this lightened balanced flywheel set up.I purchased one from this company a few years back,to start with they are a nightmare to deal with as a company, and the product is rubbish had problems with it from day one,had to remove it and fit a dmf. Please stick to what audi intended or you will regret it
