Does anyone know what this is please?

Hi All,

Does anyone happen to know what part number 8z0201801 is please? It looks like some sort of filter and sits in the left hand side of the engine bay as you face the car. It appears to be sitting in the fuel line, but we dont think its the fuel filter as we know where that is and its been replaced.

I've googled it, however all i have come up with are some websites that appear to be in russian and one reference to it being a damper?

If anyone could shed some light on it would be great, as it appears to be blocked and would like to replace it if it is.

Would help if you posted a pic of yours in the engine bay. as i put the part number into vagcat.com and it came back as part not found

Thanks for the replies! Its too dark to take a photo right now, so i'll do it in the light tomorrow. :)

I have a 1.6 FSI, so is the BAD engine code.

You do not need to deal with this, it is not the source of your problem, as it's simply an active charcoal filter to stop fumes from the tank escaping into the atmosphere.

Go look somewhere else for the problem :) Try the magnetic valve between this filter and the air intake. no, I don't have a part number to hand.

What are the rest of the symptoms and what do the error messages say?

Thanks all for the replies! Good to know what it was as the part number didnt bring anything up.

The car doesnt have a problem Bretti_kivi, we could see it looked like it was blocked and couldnt work out what it was. However it makes sense now being told its a carbon filter :)
