Door Locking Noise When Starting

Bit of an odd one. Just lately when I put the key in the ignition and turn it all the locks sound like they are are trying to lock or unlock. At first I thought it was me and my fat fingers pushing the buttons but it isn't.

Doesn't seem to have any effect, just seems a bit wierd!

Also the other night the head unit kept switching itself off then straight back on every 30 seconds or so. Next day no problems.

Who said Gremlins were fictional characters eh?!?

The door locking is nothing to worry about - it's just the key re-syncing with the immobiliser and central locking system. Tank does it fiarly regularly, but then I do tend to be tinkering with the electrics fairly regularly too!

The radio is a bit of a funny one though. I'm thinking of an under-voltage possibly, but a scan would say for certain. Is your battery in good nick?

Cheers,

Mike

Exactly the same thing happening with me also... Could it be that I recently changed the battery in my key?

The battery is as old as the car, '52 reg, so maybe I'll check that out. I have had the key do the key-sync thing on the odd occasion before but not every time. I haven't changed a battery in my fob, so can't blame that. Just one of those quirks I 'spose.
Thanks you all anyway!

My central locking flickers when turning the key in the ignition. Reading this post Mike suggests this is normal? Mine does it pretty much every time i turn the key, then now and again i will have a "silent" key turn where it does nothing.

Is this normal? Anway to stop it?

My A2 made a similar door locking noise every time I turned on the ignition and shortly after that my indicator relay packed up. Once I changed that it was all back to normal. Maybe just coincidence in my case, but the sound was perhaps indicators rather than the door locks.

I get the same sound when turning the key as well. Not sure if it happens on every turn or just the first time after putting the key in. There is a problem with both B-pillar connectors which due to moist made rust and lost connection of back door open signal. Maybe that or some similar connection loss confuses the central locking electronics?

Cheers

Neo,

yes you are right. I have checked both the a-pillar and b-pillar connections. They are Full of contact grease. I unplugged and remade the connection no difference.

Was wondering what else it could be. Its just every now and again it doesnt do it.

If its normal then I may be chasing something thats not real. Its just as if it hasnt properly unlocked the doors and has another go, dodgy earth maybe? not enough current to open first time.

I have no issues with the doors by the way they all lock and unlock as they are supposed to. Or at least they seem to.

Mine does this every time you put the keys in! It also doesn't know when the back driver's side door is open, so I guess the 2 are related! Probably a dodgy microswitch, when its a bit warmer I will get the door cards off and give them a bit of a clean. So far it hasn't caused any issues with locking or indicator operation etc.
