Draining all the coolant? 1.4 Petrol

I have changed the Thermostat yesterday and drained the coolant by disconnecting the bottom rad hose. I have filled it with water temporarily however after driving it i can see there is still coolant in the system. Will be changing the water pump timing belt etc next week all being well...

Note its a 1.4 Petrol AUA

Many Thanks

I wouldnt keep the water in for long because it will start slowly inevitable corrosion. Did you get rid of the old coolant? It would be better for the engine to put back in the old coolant rather then clean water because coolant even older one have anticorrosion inhibitors preventing it.

There is some in the engine albeit a weak mixture old coolant has been disposed of

That's good better some than none, and how long how many days before you refill the system with new coolant?

How do I completely draining all the coolant just prior to putting in the brand new ready mixed coolant

Good Afternoon,

I would be tempted to employ a sacrificial temporary refill for a week say. For the sake of £11 think of the work saved and anyway I am sceptical you will be 100% successful. Two of these and you might have enough left to do it again.

I always use ready mixed coolant. That way if you do need to top up you have the correct concentration already.

Agreed always use ready mixed stuff I know some folk don’t thinking it works out cheaper to buy concentrate, i don't like the hassle of mixing it
I have 2 bottles ready in my garage, I have read somewhere the coolant capacity is 6 litres?
