Drivers side door lock

Good afternoon Folks on this sad day.
I'm after some technical know-how please?

My CLocking continually clicks and past threads indicate possible drivers door microswitch. Solus scanner shows 01331 ECU driver door no communication -J386.
I have no idea what it means; I'm not techy - sorry. Would it reasonable to assume new door lock mechanism required? There's Metzger eplacements on Autodoc £62.00 or ebay new £29.00; I guess you get what you pay for?

Only other issue I have (this week :) is the aircon speed is up and down. The scan feedback is twofold. 1: Central air flap motor blocked, or no voltage V70 2: Temperature regulator flap motor V68 blocked or no voltage. Is this repairable and if so is this a specialist repair only or maybe there is somebody in Essex/Herts that could be recommended?

I often see Tom (Timmus) recommended, but we're likely to have a flat battery if I leave the locks until after October and I believe he is northern based.

Apologies in advance for all the questions / Mark

Replace the drivers door lock mechanism or if not confident have a garage replace it.

With the climate fan speeding up and slowing down this issue is not the cause of the 2 genuine climate faults. The blower motor has issues with its bearings being partially seized up. A removal of the blower motor and cleaning and lubricating of the bearings usually solves this but if you are paying a garage to do it just replace the blower assembly.

Good Evening,

I think I am right in saying rather than fix the microswitch I think most members just replace the lock with a used lock sourced from one of our in house recyclers obtained for a small sum, it's simpler. Also apparently it is not the microswitch but dry joints on the pcb that need resoldering.

Andy

Edit. Typing at the same time as audifan.

While you can fit recycled door locks you are very much into the grey area of are you fitting something more worn than the existing one. Remember the drivers door lock has far more use than any other lock and as such the mechanical part will be more worn.

Would hate to have a used lock fitted by a garage to find other issues.

Note to all our excellent recyclers THIS IS NOT A REFLECTION OF YOUR SERVICES only highlighting the possibility of the replacement being more worn than the one fitted and this is beyond your control.

Many thanks Andrew for the advice

Many thanks Audifan - I guess the only one that can be fitted is this from autodoc, I cant seem to find anything else 100% compatible at a lesser cost.

The Metzger door lock you are looking at on Autodoc is intended for LHD cars, so presumably won't be compatible with your A2.

If you need a new lock, it's best to ask Audi @CreweAudi whether the part is still available, and if so what it costs.

Alternatively, find a skilled auto electrician who can reflow the solder on your existing PCB for you.

Great advice and thank you very much. There's a servo sound constantly engaging as the speed changes too, but I'm hoping this is one and the same fault. I have downloaded the blower removal guide kindly posted by shezlee in 2010; hopefully that will help.. Thank you again. Mark

Thank you Steve. The part is audi part number 8z2837016D, it is no longer available and was dropped by Audi September 2020 (courtesy Crewe Audi). I guess a secondhand one will have to do for now and also have the old one soldered up as a hot spare. He actually pointed me towards A2OC to see if anyone had one they would sell :)

This article may be of help as a work around for a new lock........

I did not know that, but then that is no surprise. Autodoc now list 3 locks available made by Ridex, Bugiad and Febi, but when I check compatibility it states these will not fit my car. ..Sdo you think they are still worth buying?

Why not just buy the lock from the eBay listing in the linked article? £25.99 won't break the bank, in fact it seems very reasonably priced for a new item.

Hi Taylor ... I swapped out one of the door locks from a VW Golf as an experiment ... the part number was the same apart from the prefix for the car type ... and these are readily available new, if it helps.

The lock I linked to requires a minor modification, specifically covered in this post:

That's great. Thanks for the confirmation 👍

Thanks for all the help Steve. Perhaps one day I'll be able to pass this new found knowledge on 😁
