Drivers side door lock

b****r - you won't believe this 🤣 it worked around six times and packed up😁... i have a guy called Gary Wilson from the A2OOG coming Saturday hopefully and he is going to to solder it and fix a bunch of other stuff too, so alls well that ends well. Had this not have happened, then I would not have sought him out!

Hello Mark,

Do you mean the drivers door lock I sent only lasted 6 times before it gave up. Quite shocked to be honest as this has resided in a working convenience circuit with no faults at all. Could something be causing this second driver lock mechanism to fail or just really bad luck.

I know I sold this nice and cheap to help out but Steve has one available here.

Kind regards,

Tom

The garage fitted it and apparently all was perfect and then they went back to the car and all the locks worked apart from the drivers side and this actually deadlocked itself, so the only way in or out of the car is through the passenger side. The locks don't continually lock any.ore either. Hope this makes sense. Like I said it's really not a problem as I've made two really solid contacts out of this car and gained lots of knowledge too.

Gary Wilson td me it's the luck of the draw garage fitted it, opened and slammed door shut a few times and obviously broke it in the process.

Just like to male it clear I am not a really after anything, just share my experience 🙃

Hi Mark,

That’s frustrating if the garage may have somehow damaged the mechanical side of the mechanism as it seems that the electrical side is now sorted.

Shame you’re not closer as I would have fitted the lock mechanism for you FOC which would have avoided it possibly getting damaged.

Glad you have found an alternative solution to your woes as it is annoying putting up with these kind of issues. This reminds me that I must reflow my rear door modules.

Kind regards,

Tom

Big thank you to you and all that have given advice and commented really. Must be frustrating dealing with somebody that has no idea 😁. Will get there in the end!

Spot on Tom - after inspection today they had clearly fitted incorrectly, then bent the lock to handle connecting rod every way possible to try and get it to work and then finally tried to force the lock and snap the spring.

They know I have 5 vehicles that need servicing and mx, so their loss too I guess.

Evening Mark,

Even more frustrating that the garage have damaged a perfectly serviceable supplied part and not owned up to it, just informing you it worked and then it suddenly didn’t. Seems their integrity might be in question now you’ve found what has actually happened.

Good to read you’ll be taking your business elsewhere in the future.

Kind regards,

Tom

If they bent the internal rod between the lock and door handle you may want to consider replacing that also unless you know exactly how it should look and straighten it accordingly.

The design of the lock requires the components to completely reset to allow the lock to function properly. If the rod is still pulling on the lock when the handle is home that could be enough to prevent the lock resetting. Worst case the door jams and unable to open it.

Yes Tom the lock was perfect; my assumption now is that they never did get it working and it locked up immediately due poor fitting.

Every cloud! Lucky I already bought a nice (ish) 05 plate the required bodged conbector rod could be borrowed from.

Hello Tom
Yes the bent rod had to be borrowed from the other a2 I've just bought, there was no way of knowing the exact angles etc, so this was the only option and boy did it look different!

Sorry - just realised you're not Tom!

I reckon you could do a lot worse than WOM Automotive in Stoke. Not a million miles from you I reckon. One of the biggest problems with our eccentric little cars is "Mr.Bodge".
B&F Autos in West Hounslow are terrific and charge very sensible rates. A lot closer to you than WOM.

Thank you Simon. Yes - definitely Master Bodger, in fact; too much to list.
