Driving noise

I bought my 2004 1.4 diesel with 7k on the clock and it's now done 120k. I've decided to keep it, so I'm in the middle of a program of work that includes wheel refurbishment, four new tyres, replacing various bits of trim, a couple of days in the body shop, a service, and replacement of the OSF wheel bearing and OS universal joint gaiter.

I'd noticed a noise when driving at 60-70mph on the motorway and had thought it was a combination of the worn wheel bearing and worn tyres. But having had those jobs done, it's still there. It's what I can best describe as a 'turning shaft noise' that doesn't change when I dip the clutch and therefore disconnect the gearbox.

I have no other problems with the car, excepting that the clutch release bearing squeals from time to time, and there's sometimes a sticking brake pad sound when the car's been standing overnight, especially if it's been raining. It's always been serviced on time and at Swansea Audi (please don't laugh at the back).

Can anybody help?
