ECU management, ABS lights, no power, help

Loads of fault codes, light on dash, no power, desperate for help

Hi, I have had a prob with my A2 1.4, the ECU management light has come on. I read through your threads and didnt panic, then the lights went out couple of days later. Great i thought. The today the EPC light, ECU management, ABS, warning triange came on. It was like christmas all over again. But the car was still running absolutely fine, so i got home and left it for a bit, went out to check car about an hour later thinking all the lights would have magically disapeared but no joy, but i found the engine wouldnt rev about 1200 no matter what i did with accelerator. So bit stuck.

What can i do to get it going? Does anyone have any ideas? Any good repairers near hemel?

Help please

Hi Claire.155, welcome to the A2oc
When all the warning lights are on it can indicate a problem with the electronic brake force distribution system and this could force the engine to run in 'limp home mode'
Ideally you should have a diagnostic scan to pinpoint the problem

Cheers Spike

If you won the lottery recently, then go to the nearest franchised dealership. Otherwise, look at the A2OC map and see if there's a diagnostic-equipped member near you.

If not, then find a decent local independent, who can do a scan and then can proceed from there.

Cheers,

Mike

Well here it is so far, Took car to local garage, they reset the faults log as they said there were lots of faults. Now they are taking car out for a good drive to see if it returns??? I think my car is the new run around car for the garage? They think it may just be a glitch (in the matrix)

I'll post what they find if anything?

Well where do i start. Aparently the fault codes came back. So here we go

Throttle actuator
Barometric manifold pressure signal
air intake air signal
ABS-ECU control module

Fault lights:

EPC
ECU management
Brake fluid
Brake Warining
ABS

They dont really have a clue, they said something about a "PUB"?? It cost about £300 but they are not sure. Need help ungently before it costs me lots!!!!!

We really need the fault codes from a scan to work with - see if you can get them from the garage and then we can hopefully give you something solid to work with.

I hope that 'PUB' isn't a reference to what they're going to do with your payment of the bill!!

Cheers,

Mike

Just got the actual fault codes if this means anything to you.

17962
17961
17912

and 01314

help help help please

They said the POD not PUB, my bad ears

Right, the pod they're referring to is presumably the instruments, as the 01314 fault code relates to non-communication with the ECU.

The 17961/62 faults are linked and could be something as simple as a stivking throttle body (simple clean and adaptation will do the trick here).

The final one 17912 is indeed a leak in the intake bypass system, and this too could conceivably be linked with the throttle body. If it's sticking open a little, it'll have the same effect as an air leak.

So, throttle body would be my first port of call and shoudl be cheapish to clean, re-align and then check.

Cheers

Mike

To be honest Claire, if they don't know how to do a throttle body clean and alignment, then go somewhere else - they can quite easily make matters worse, or at least, run up a large labour bill for work that doesn't need doing.

Cheers,

Mike

Is there a link to a procedure for me to do it? I think i'm gonna get car back, this garage seem clueless and i'm scared of the bill they are going to clock up!! I'll post next saga later

Thanks so much for all you help so far by the way

I phoned the garage 1st thing. They did what you said and.......hey presto. The faults dissapeared. Really chuffed. So much for a £300 pod needing replacing. Many many thanks to everyone thats helped. I'll buy you all a drink :)

Well as Wallace would say, "All's well that ends well!"

Glad you're up and running again and at minimal cost too - stick with A2OC and we'll see you alright.

Cheers,

Mike

Well done Claire! The benefits of this wonderful club have just been amply demostrated. In the past your average mechanic could turn his hand to most cars, but since the A2 is a little special :D it needs the knowledge that Mike, Spike, Brett_kivi and our other experts have to offer.

Over the past 3 years they have saved me loads of money too, but all that money saved has been spent on mods

Enjoy the drive!
