Information ECU Removal

Hi Folks, I've been looking on the forum but can't seem to find what I'm looking for so decided it would be quicker to ask the question.

I've got one of depronman's AKA Paul's loan ECU's but was wondering if I need to disconnect the battery or just have the ignition switched off before I swap the ECU's over?

Just out of interest and for my info is the ECU a straight swap. I was led to believe that some form of laptop transfer is required so that the ECU knows it's in the correct vehicle and does not assume the identity of the donor car....engine no, VIN no, etc. Happy to be proved wrong.

I've just swapped Paul's loan ecu for my original ecu without any issues, as far as I know it's just a few fault codes to be reset once the original ecu's reinstalled due to it being active while installing the map and not being connected to the car. The best man to ask is depronman aka Paul.I would highly recommend going for his remap, the difference in performance is amazing but also so much better to drive a lower speeds too

My loan ecu’s have the immobiliser disabled so they will work in car of the correct engine type (this is why I have three loan ecu’s)
There are a few error codes logged in the ecu due to bench flashing as there are no sensors attached to the ecu on the bench once these have been cleared the ecu performs as normal (less the immobiliser)
This is ok for a loan ecu but not an ideal solution long term. Hence I remap the cars own ecu whilst the A2 is kept on the road with the loan ecu
This saves the A2 coming to st Annes and allows it to be kept on the road all the time plus you get to try before you buy on the remap
Cheers Paul
