Electric polishing/buffing tool

Could anyone recommend an electric polishing/buffing tool as I would like to remove some of the swirls

I had my whole car detailed by a chap (the-extra-mile) in Manchester for £130 and he did a fantastic job taking a day and a half to complete it. He came round and assessed the paintwork first using a paint depth gauge to establish there was enough paint so clearly knew his stuff with a full report by email of what he intended to do.

For that price when you weight up the cost of the equipment polish, clay etc you are not far off what I paid. Now with the 2 bucket rule sheepskin mitten etc I should be able to maintain it.

Some detailers charge £400-£500 - although when you can take on Bugatti etc and use poish that costs over £10k a pot you can get away with it.

best polish, compound, to use on audis

hi all, if you are going to polish your a2, first i use clay to take eveything away that shouldnt be there, i own a makita rotary polisher, the best polish to use is menzerna, its german made for vag cars , the laquer after 2001 is very hard, you will get the best finish, then wipe down panels with isopol alcohol to degrease, then i use zano z2 the best sealer out there !. this will seal the paint for 6 months or more, then stand back and enjoy it will look like a mirror. !!

I bought the Halfords unit and is comfortably weighted, I also bought the AutoGlym Paint Restorer, I was after something that did not have any wax or gloss in it but I am not sure if this it to harsh - not as bad a T Cut.

Do you have any suggestions.

Be very careful with the Autoglym stuff - I have some and it's only used very watered down and on bad marks on Angies Yaris - it's just too harsh for normal swirl removing.

I swear by this stuff - http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/meguiars/83-cleaner-polish.aspx or if you just need a light cut compound, then get some of this - http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/meguiars/80-speed-glaze.aspx

Once you've applied and corrected the marks, you can then just wash down, dry and apply your fav wax.

Cheers,

Mike

I'll second that. I used Menzerna 203S on my wife's A2 (cobalt blue). Looks like black and is a complete pain for showing swirl marks. Even with a weekly wash and constant pampering, I reckon you'll need to rotary polish probably every 6 months and re-seal. Our roads just now have more salt than the dead sea!

T-cut . even the stuff for laquered cars is to harsh. I've been polishing cars for over 12 years work and home (mashine, not just waxing) and have never gone through any paint work that was original, been close on some that have had some nasty repaints, but that was from the owners "can you do anything with this?" the little light weight polishers like the Makita are great for just doing your car once or twice a year, but if you was to use it all day the thermal cut out would cut in and you would have had to let it cool down. The one i use was made by Stayer (from Machine Mart) don't sell them anymore twin speed and it will go all do without breaking a sweat;)

But swirl can be caused by the head itself if you don't clean the head, the paint that you are removing from the car is sitting on the head with the eccess polish and the putting fine scratches back into the paint, but you can get polishes that remove swirls

Cheers Phil

I use a Milwaukee. And as its been said the Menz polish is very good as is the Megs.

Here's a Works mini i look after for a friend of mine as he insists on continually taking it to car washers on road side !!!!!:mad::mad:

Car was finished with DoDo juice Super natural and Red Mist. ;)
