Electric Window Fault

I know some people have raised this before but I have had intermittent problems with the drivers window not auto opening/closing - or it closes then drops down 4" before you have to 'negotiate' with the switch to keep it closed.

Now both the windows refuse to operate. I can hear the 'click' sound but nothing! Before I could over-ride what I think is the auto cut out by pressing the unlock on the central locking switch but now this faulty and when it works doesn't give window operation.

Anyone had similar problems or can offer a suggestion as to the problem? Out of warranty so at the mercy of Audi !!!

Hi Foghorn,

With respect to the windows closing and then dropping down a few inches; from my experience this is caused from the window glass tilted very slightly when closing - this tilt causes some resistance, of which the closer senses may be a trapped object (hand etc) and therefore opens the window. You can test this by actually watching the window just as it starts to close - it will tilt over before moving up - you can hold it with the palm of your hand on the glass and it stops the tilt, which in turn allows the window to shut correctly. Personally I never bothered getting this sorted as it didn't happen that ofter to me.

Hope that helps

Cheers I'll have a look. Incidentally the windows have started operating again - very strange but will need to monitor.

I too have the exact same problem on my A2 1.4 TDI Sport. Took it in to Audi and they said, couldn't find anything wrong. There's a surprise !!!. Continues to doit but not all the time.

My passenger window does this intermittantly as well. funnily enough only seen it do when operated by the passenger door switch. The switch on the drivers side seems to make it close normally (although this is probably just a fluke if its because the windows tilts slightly as above)

my drivers window does this too, from what i've noticed, it tends to be in colder waether, the seals shrink slightly, and grip the glass, and if its combined with slightly out of adjustment glass, it seems to be worse.

i took mine to the dealer and they lubed the runners (under warranty) and its alot better, maybe just case of frequent lubrication, especially in colder weather!!

Don't talk to me about this problem!

My warranty has just run out.

4-5 days before the warranty ran out, I took mine in again to cure this problem.
It has now happened again, and the dealer/Audi don't really care. If like me you take your car in just before the warranty runs out ie 4-5 days, that's all the guarantee you get on those parts fitted! you DON"T get the 24 months guarantee that it says at the bottom of the invoice..!

Mine has been in around 6-7 times since new for this problem, I've had switches, motors, regulators etc fitted, all works for a while, but the problem comes back.
I've found the passenger side to be the most problematic.

I will be taking this up in letter to Audi, I have phoned them but their £50 off and the dealer giving £50 is an insult for something that has not worked properly from day one! It makes me think there is some fault with a lot of A2 windows, judging by the threads in this forum.

If you want my advice keep taking it in, and make sure you get it sorted well before your warranty runs out.

As this is a recurring fault that has happened since new, the dealer should be obliged to fix it even thought the car is now out of warranty. They knew of the problem prior to the 3 years being up so they should honor their warranty.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.
Was a Merlot Red 1.4SE petrol originally.
Now an Ebony Black 1.4SE petrol with Red Leather, CC, Symphony + all the previous options we had.

Sorry to go off track, but just wanted to comment on those pictures of Rob's Merlot Red A2. Still cannot get over the accident shots and then seeing it months later on a garage forecourt as if nothing had happened.

WD40 - To the rescue again. Taking advice I decided to spray a liberal ammount of WD40 down the side rubbers and it looks to have cured the problem (hopefully). Get the occasional 'blip' but unless I take the door panel off and lube all the runners I'm going to contiune with the WD technique.
