Electric Window override for rear

Hi my override for the rear electric windows refuses to stay in the locked down position. Is this a common problem and or easy fix??? If there is a quick link to a previous post that would be good/ I have searched but nothing close.
Thanks

Hi Blue Bottle,

I'm afraid it's not an easy fix. The override button is integrated into the master switch assembly which is, to all intents and purposes, a sealed unit. It sounds to me like the latching mechanism has died.
The replacement part is about £35, if my memory serves me properly. Replacing this is very easy if you're familiar with how to remove the door cards.
Does your car have the soft-touch coating on the window switches? The master switch is available both with and without soft-touch coating.

Cheers,

Tom

thanks for the info Tom, yes it has soft touch coating, I will keep my eyes peeled on fleabay, one might come up. Otherwise more money to be spent on my lovely A2.

It is possible that one will come up on eBay, though cars with rear electric windows aren't too common, so you may be waiting some time. Also, the condition of anything available will vary greatly; the soft-touch coating does peel easily, and the 'clickiness' of the switches also has a tendency to die, meaning the two-stage use of the switch can become difficult.
If I was in your position, I'd be talking to the dealers, but it's up to you. I suppose not having control of the rear windows for a while is hardly a massive inconvenience.

Cheers,

Tom
