Electric Windows Stopped Working

Ok couple of weeks ago my electric windows had a moment where i pressed the button and nothing happened. Waited a few minutes and tried again and they worked fine.

Last week they again stopped working, came back to life briefly for a day and now have been gone for three days.

Searched on here for advice. I need to check obvious things like loose wiring in the door, clean contacts on the a-pillar and on the switches themselves (door card off, which ill replace my checkstraps while im at it). Other than that i guess were down to central convenience module?. I have no other electrical issues with anything. Wondered if anyone else had any ideas? There is just no noise at all when you press button, no motor struggling or anything like that.

Ive scanned with VCDS and there are no faults reported whatsoever, so no window regulator or motor related ones which i might have expected.

Any help as always appreciated.

Cheers

Gary

I'm assuming you've checked the switches themselves for resistance? Also, are you able to operate the windows via the remote when locking/unlocking?

I only ask, as my other half had a poor experience at a local car salon when they inadvertently polished her window switches causing them to act erratically and/or not at all. Once dried, they're 95% working again, however I'm hopefully replacing one of the switches tomorrow for the passenger side control on the drivers side.

AFAIK, a scan won't report duff switches (not 100% sure on this)

I haven't had chance to check anything yet. You make a good point on the unlocking with the remote fob, and no this has stopped working too, which could point me in the right direction. Not entirely sure how the feeds to the windows are wired.

This may sound completely insane but my windows have been acting up for a while and I accidentally came across a solution. I pressed the "red key" button on the drivers side door ! Every time the windows act up, I lock myself in and they're fine.... weird I know !
