Hi RAB:
The car is a 2004 model, when I plug in my diagnostic machine it asks me the car details etc then asks the ignition to be switched on & says establishing communication , but after a few minutes it comes up no communications established, something must have shut down, as initially when the light came on, I connected the diagnostic machine & it came up with G44 Rear Right ABS sensor malfunction, I cleaned the ABS sensor, pluged the machine & reset the fault code, all lights went out, I drove round the car park & the light came back on, checked the connector on the ABS cleaned it with brake cleaner pluged it back to the machine reset the codes ( G44 again ) again as soon as I drove out the lights came back, pluged my scanner again, but this time said no communications established.
I have tried 2 other machines but no communications.

Cheers RAB

Hi Again @RAB please see below the first time I reset the light:

Now I can not communicate to reset the code/ switch off the lights on the dash.

What happened when the car was connected to VCDS? Did the LED light up on the connector?

Yes the LED did light up but no communications, the same as my snap on machine also the same as my friends hand held machine.

To start with, check fuses SB28 and SB29. Then check J59 (X-contact relay).

Just tried again, ignition on, blue tooth device flashing, the no comms,
I have checked fuse 29 10 Amp ok, where is Relay X J59 please
Cheers

Hi @RAB just replaced relay J59 370 nochange, however decided to do engine management & it communicated & came up with this fault below:
Tried to clear the code, but unable to do this, the code is connected to ABS issue, code p1649

There are further fuses associated with ABS, S88 150A (stripfuse) and S123 60A (ABS unit fuse 1). The latter is located on the relay carrier, but it varies with the model.

Thank you @RAB, will look for 60 Amp fuse tonight, also double check the 150 Amp one.

Also check that you do have 12vdc at SB29, with the ignition ON. If not, suspect the ignition switch.

@RAB problem solved went through every fuse & relay in the car I could find.

You will never believe it, look at the problem below, a fuse piggy back that's useless.

Cut it out put fuse in directly, all communications are back, all the time, I spent.

Hopefully the ABS light will now stay out as I have changed the sensor. etc etc etc

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND EFFORTS, I OWE YOU ONE.

Cheers,
Ami

Hi,

After reviewing this thread I am still not 100% sure so please advise:

Which earth point is the power steering pump connected to? The one behind the ABS pump or the one inside the car near front left side passenger legs (or in other words near the OBD connector)?

I need to have it cleaned as I suspect it to be causing "Steering gone again" issue at my A2.
