Engine Advise

Any suggestions on this problem. The yellow engine management light has stayed on and won't go off. When I start the car, the yellow ok sign states everything is working properly, there are no other lights coming on except the engine management symbol which is staying on.

The car is running fine, there are no problems with the car. I just wondered if the service sign comes up and you do not service the car does this cause the engine management light to stay on?

I would appreciate any suggestions, what this problem could be.

Thanks

Hi, Find a member with Vag Com and scan it to see what faults come up.

Is it just me or does that sound like some kind of disease or cream to treat it??? LMAO!! Blame it on the sunshine..........

Si:):D:cool:

It's just you ...lol :D

Vag Com is software & hardware that scans the cars computer to reveal any logged faults, which are held in it's memory ;)

Vag Com

Thanks for your replys

Is there any fellow membrs in the North of Scotland or anwhere in scotland can help with a Vag Com. Is it still ok to drive my car? Anyone know where I can take my car to have the Vag Com. Does it have to be an Audi garage and if so any idea what do they charge?

Thanks

Hi Mrb - theres a few VagCom members in the central belt but thats too far a drive for you. Maybe PM Graham Robertson (GrahamR) a top bloke from your neck of the woods and find out who looks after his A2? I think theres an Audi independant in Aberdeen, but I cant quite recall.
Audi will do it of course, but count on an hours labour charge for the privilege (at least £50) and you're not guaranteed that the diagnosis will be right. It seems some dealers interpret the codes to reflect the maximum potential invoice - but maybe I am cynical. I dont know anything about Specialist Cars or whatever they're called now - so I may be doing them a disservice here.

As long as theres nothing obviously changed in the cars performace or the way the engine sounds I think It should be fine to drive the car. Theres a host of reasons why that light can come on, but I'm no mechanic so maybe one of our techno gurus can give you realistic peace of mind on that one.
I dont know Graham that well, just met once at this years social, but like most A2OC'ers he's a fine bloke! Also on here a few times a week, so I'm sure he'll catch your PM soon enough. Local knowledge and a recommendation goes a long way to peace of mind that your car is going to be looked after properly.

If the car seems to be running fine then it is hopefully nothing to worry too much about. The light in my 1.4 has come on a couple of times and needs to be cleared with VAG COM. As far as I remember it was an 'implausible signal' from the EGR valve/sensor which was not too important if it doesn't occur too often. In my case it's been about 6 months since it last did it, and the light has just come on again.

You can also buy your own vag com cable and get free software which can read the fault codes for you. THis is cheaper than paying a garage to do it for you in most cases and is what I did.

Vag Com

Dear Murdo & SGoode,

Thanks for your reply. As far as Audi are concerned, they are a waste of time. You can't even speak to someone in the workshop these days, you get through to some receptionist that tells you to book it in for a Vag Com test that costs £55. I also also went to a car clinic, they are slightly cheaper at £40. As Steve says I think the problem is the same as what he said as the rest of my car is running fine and there are no other lights coming on.

If anyone knows anyone who has a Vag Com, I would rather pay them money for their time rather than pay Audi £55. Any suggestions?

I look forward to any response.

Mr B
