Strange question but is is possible or practical to change a 1.4 petrol to a 75bhp Tdi engine?

Spose anything is possible with the right knowledge and resources, but it would be quite a task.
Better just getting a TDI.

Yes I do not disagree. But having spent alot of time, money and effort on my petrol version, which I would never get back if I sold it on, it seems that an engine change would be the easiest way of getting an oil burner.

That would be a mammoth task indeed. Not just the engine but instruments, wiring looms fuel tank and all the extra fuel parts for the diesel, then there is the heating in the cabin to consider with the possible need for an electric aux heater. Then there is the suspension considerations, the battery, the drive shafts etc.

You may be better looking for someone who has a really nice diesel but now wants a petrol due to ULEZ and working out a deal with them.

My concern would be changing the log book details and tax bracket ect

Would also be a royal pita to change engine, box, wiring loom, fuel tank
