Interesting from Norway; from 1. March 2022 engine light will not be MOT failure for petrol cars registered 2002 and earlier, and 2007 and earlier for diesel.
The argument is that engine light is not necessarily related to emissions.
Petrol cars first used before 1st July 2003, and diesel and bi-fuel cars first used before 1st July 2008, have always been exempt from this requirement.
I was actually surprised as I thought the policy would be to make it harder to keep old fossile cars on the road. But this relaxation is quite the opposite.
That said does not give the green light to ignore an engine light or any other warning light. The problem should be found quickly and repaired to extinguish the warning light.
