Engine Management Light

Calling on learned wisdom/experience of A2 Forum

I've had my petrol 1.4 A2 for 20 months now (1 previous owner, 85k, every audi service stamp etc). It was due 90k service and needed MOT. Took it to trusted (ish) garage in Cambridge. After small service and MOT, EM light came on – garage's reply was that to get engine up to require heat for MOT, probably rattled a sensor and should sort itself out. Sure enough light went out next day. Driving absolutely fine. Three days later it was back on, and has remained on (several weeks). Again, drives absolutely fine.

What would you recommend as a course of action? Is there a way to reset it, will an important sensor have blown that could lead to future issues?

Any help/advice gratefully received

Scan, scan, scan. It's surprising the garage didn't do that?! Or they just deleted the fault code, so it comes back very soon.
If your A2 drives good, then could be an EGR or T. body requires cleaning.

Thanks guys – will try and get a scan done, pretty sure the garage didn't do one, and I know the guy personally so don't think he would have deleted error if it had appeared.

Our Emissions Warning Lamp comes on after " giving it welly " i.e. lots of Revs for Overtaking or something. Always goes out after the A2 has had a rest. But then the Emissions are always just out of spec every MOT time. What do we do ? Just keep fitting new aftermarket Cats that only last about 18 Months ?

Unless you scan it, you'll never know what the problem is. Why do you think it's the cat? Could easily be something else that's killing the cat. Could be over fuelling, costing you money that way too.
Mac.
